2.persuade:劝服；劝说;
Eg:
They used force to persuade him.他们用武力逼他就范.I had a great trouble to persuade him.我费了很大的劲儿去说服他.

用法归纳： of sth.
persuade sb. to do sth. 劝服某人做某事
==talk sb. into doing sht.

I persuade him not to smoke.我劝他不要抽烟.近义词辨析persuade/advise/suggest
persuade强调结果，劝说成功，“劝服”的意思；而advise和suggest只表示“劝说”、“建议”，不强调结果；advise可以用作advise doing sth和advise sb. to do sht.;而suggest后直接doing而不能接sb. to do sth.,但可以接suggest to sb. to do sth.的形式。Eg:
I advised him to give up smoking, but he didn’t listen to me.
I persuaded him to give up smoking and he never smokes again.
The teacher suggested to me to be careful.
注意:try to persuade 相当于advise，强调动作，不强调结果。Eg；
I tried my best to persuade him into returning to school, but failed.
