Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge aims:
1. To study the dates and the ordinal numbers.
2. The students can know how to ask others’ birthdays and how to read the date.
2. Ability aims:
1. Develop the students’ ability of listening, speaking.
2. Train the students’ ability of communication.
3. Emotional aims:
⑴. The students can be interested in good co-operation.
⑵ The students learn to love their parents and their life.
Teaching key points and difficult points:
1. The students to find out the regularity of the ordinal numbers.
2. The students learn to make a survey.
Teaching aids: A tape recorder, multi-media.
Teaching procedures:
Step1: Warm-up and revision
1. Greeting.
2. Let’s enjoy a song---The months
3. Review months and some numbers
T: Which month has 28 days
S: Every month.
T: What are they
How about the order of the months
S: ……
Step2: Learn the ordinal numbers
1. Learn more ordinal numbers
T: From the 12 months, we learn the ordinal numbers [1-12].
Let’s learn more.
2. T: Can you find some rules in these numbers
Summarize like:
●基变序,有规律,词尾加上th.
●1 2 3 特殊记,词尾字母 st,nd,rd。
●8 少 t, 9 去 e, f 来把 ve替。
●整十变y为ie, 后跟 th 莫迟疑。
●若想表示几十几,只变个位就可以。
3. Work on 2a&2b
2a: Listen to the numbers and repeat after the tape.
2b: Listen and circle the numbers you hear in 2a.
Step3: Learn the dates
1. Say some dates.
T: Look at the calendar of December, what’s the date today
S: December 16th.
T: When is Christmas Day
S: December 25th.
T: There are more holidays in a year. Let’s see when they are one by one.
2. Memory challenge
Show some dates in a second and disappear quickly, ask students to say depending on their memory.
Step4: Talk about birthday
1. Talk about your birthday
Show a picture of birthday cake and ask:
T: When is your birthday
S: My birthday is … .
Then ask and answer in rows like:
A: When is your birthday
B: My birthday is … . When is your birthday
C: My birthday is … . When is your birthday
D: My birthday is … . When is your birthday
………..
2. Work on 2c
T: Look! They are our friends Leila, Nick, Jane and Robert.
When are their birthdays
Let’s listen to the tape, match the names, months and days.
Then check together.
3. Talk about others’ birthday
T: After listening, do you know when Leila’s birthday is
When is Leila’s birthday
S: Her birthday is September 17th.
T: When is Nick’s/Robert’s/Jane’s birthday
S: His/Her birthday is ….
4. Pair work
Show the pictures of some famous people, and ask & answer like this:
A: When is …’s birthday
B: His/Her birthday is ….
5. Talk about the family’s birthday
A: When is Xiaoxin’s birthday
B: His birthday is March 23rd.
A: When is his father’s birthday
B: His birthday is April 15th.
A: When is his mother’s birthday
B: Her birthday is January 1st.
T: How about your family
When is your father’s/mother’s birthday
Step5: Make a survey
Ask the partner’s birthday and his/her favorite month, and his/her parents’ birthday. You can ask like this:
A: When is your birthday B: …
A: When is your father’s/mother’s birthday B: ….
A: What month do you like
B: ….
Then report like this:
Boys and girls,
This is…, his/her birthday is ….
His /Her mother’s birthday is ….His /Her father’s birthday is … .He/She likes … Thank you.
T: Remember your parents’ birthday!
Know more about your parents and love your parents!
多了解一点父母,多给父母一份爱!
Step6: Let’s sing

Step7: Homework
1. Make a survey about your classmates’ birthdays and make a class birthday booklet.
2. Copy the ordinal numbers [1-31] five times each and recite them.
