When the musical sound rings you, you immediately reach for your pocket ready to have a chat. But although you probably use it all the time, have you ever stopped to think about the manners related to talking on the phone If you haven’t, here are some tips to guide you.
●Always give the person you are calling plenty of time to get to the phone before you hang up. If the person who answers is not the one you want, give your name and ask if you may speak to the person you want.
●Think about the time you call people. Try not to call too early in the morning(before about 9:00)or too late at night(after about 9:30). Also try not to call at mealtimes.
●If you go by plane to visit your relatives at Christmas, remember to follow airline instructions. Cell phones must be turned off as soon as the plane doors are closed and remain so until the doors open again on arrival.
●When face to face with someone, do not talk on the phone. It is rude to be on the phone when a waiter is trying to take your order in a restaurant, or when you are returning the shoes you have just been trying on in a shop. Finish any face-to-face business before taking a call. Continuing to use the phone while nodding to the person in front of you is quite impolite.
●When in a restaurant with your friends, keep phone conversations short. Make a call only if it is important. Practise speaking in a low voice. If no one looks your way, you’ve got it.
●If you go to a theatre, a concert or a cinema, consider the other people around you. Check that your phone is “off” before you enter. If you are expecting a very important call, put your phone on “vibrate”(振动)and run for the exit as soon as you feel it. If you forget both “off” and “vibrate” and your phone rings, don’t answer it, turn it off straight away.
36. Which is true according to the passage above
A. You may call people anytime as you like.
B. You may talk loudly on the phone at dinner in the restaurant.
C. You may keep on talking on the phone while greeting somebody.
D. You may call people as soon as you get on the plane, but not after the doors are closed.
37. We may infer from these tips that__________.
A. some people don’t pay much attention to manners while making cell phone calls
B. you may ask to leave a message unless the person you are calling is in
C. calling people too early or too late in the morning is not polite
D. almost everyone has got a cell phone
38. What does the underlined sentence “…you’ve got it” mean in the passage
A. You have succeeded in making a call without disturbing others.
B. You have made the phone call brief and interesting.
C. You’ve got the message you are waiting for.
D. You have made a phone call secretly.
39. From the tips given above, we can decide the writer is sure to share the opinion that______.

B. as the old saying goes, money talks; nowadays cell phones talk

Like a growing number of young women in Vietnam’s northern part city of Haiphong, Pham Thi Hue was infected with HIV by her husband, one of the town’s many drug users. But instead of being shamed into silence, as Vietnamese with HIV and AIDS are, the 25-year-old tailor and mother of one went public, appearing on television and at conferences. Her business suffered and her neighbors insulted (辱骂)her, but Hue has now become the public face of Mothers and Wives, an HIV/ AIDS support group established in Haiphong by a Norwegian nongovernmental organization and her neighborhood’s People’s Committee. Last year, she founded a smaller group named after a local flower. People who need advice on treatment or help preparing bodies for burial can dial a hot line and get assistance from able and sympathetic(同情的)HIV victims. “We gather to support each other,” Hue says. “When we are sick, what we need most is encouragement and comfort from people who understand our situation and are willing to share our happiness, as well as our sadness.”
On a hot and damp night last month, Hue welcomed into her small home a very thin woman, also a tailor, who was HIV positive. The woman tearfully told Hue that she had not told anyone about her condition, fearing that she would lose customers and that her daughter would be insulted at school. Hue became the wise elder, offering medical and personal advice.
40. What did Pham Thi Hue do after she was infected with HIV

Monarch butterflies (黑脉金斑蝶) are a common summer sight in the northern United States and Canada. These large orange and black insects brighten parks and gardens as they fly lightly among the flowers. What makes monarchs particularly interesting is that they migrate all the way to California or Mexico and back. They are thought to be the only insect that does this.
Every year in the late summer monarchs begin their journey to the south. Those heading for Mexico go first from the Louisiana-Mississippi area, then fly across the Gulf of Mexico into Texas. Once in Mexico, they settle themselves in one of about fifteen places in a mountain forest filled with fir trees. Each place provides a winter home for millions of monarchs. The butterflies are so many that they often cover entire trees. When spring comes, they begin their long journey north.
The question is often asked whether every butterfly makes the round-trip journey every year. And the answer is no. the average monarch lives about nine months. So one flying north might lay eggs in Louisiana and then die. The eggs of that generation may be found in Kentucky;the eggs of next generation may end up in Wisconsin or Michigan. The last generation of the season, about the fourth, will make their way back to Mexico and restart the journey.
Scientists learn about monarchs’ migration by catching and making marks on the insects. By reaching a monarch with such a mark and noticing where it came from, the next scientist can get to know things like the butterfly’s age and its routing.

In deciding upon a unit of measurement, it is possible to pick anything. For example, the average height of a man could possibly have been a unit of measurement. In fact, some of the units used today in English-speaking countries are based on such things as the distance from a man’s elbow to the tip of his middle finger or the weight of a grain of wheat.
Because there have been so many differences in weights and measures used in different countries, an international system has been urged. One such system has been used by all countries of the world, it is the metric system.
This is a system worked out by a committee of scientists appointed in France in l789. The English-speaking countries are almost the only ones that do not use the metric system in their measures. However it is used in scientific work even in those countries.
The metric system is based on a measure of length called the “meter”. This is approximately (近似) one ten-millionth of the distance on the Earth’s surface from pole to equator, which is about 3937 miles.
The metric system is based on 10 as is our number system so that each unit of length is 10 times as large as the next smaller unit. There are square and cubic units for measuring area and volume which correspond to the units of length.
The unit of weight is the gram, which is the weight of a cubic centimeter of pure water. The liter is a measure used as the quart is used, but it is a little larger. The hectare, which is10, 000 square meters, is used as the acre in Britain, but is 2.471 acres. The metric system is more convenient to use than the English system because its plan is the same as that of our number system.
Here are some equivalents for the metric and English systems:one foot equals 0.305 meter; one inch equals 2.540 centimeters; one mile equals 1.609 kilometers; one quart(liquid)equals 0.946 liter.
36. Metric system should be used in the world because _______.
A. man measured the distance which is based on the distance from a man’s elbow to the tip of his middle finger
B. the English-speaking countries used their own measurement
C. scientific work needs a unit of measurement
D. it is based on the weight of a grain of wheat an informal measure of weight is used today
37. In_________, a committee of scientists worked out “Metric system”.
A. America B. Japan
C. France D. Germany
38. Which of the following units does NOT belong to “metric system”
A. Acre B. Hectare
C. Kilometer D. Gram
39. This passage is mainly about ________ .
A. how to work out the metric system
B. what is the metric system
C. how to change other units into the metric system
D. the development of the metric system

One possible version:
Dear David,
Recently we have carried out the suggestion to play music during the class break, and the students have had many private talks about it. Their opinions mainly fall into two groups.
Most of us agree that music should be played. As we know, music can produce a lively and happy atmosphere. Besides, music brings us relaxation after hard study, which reduces the tiredness. Listening to music also makes us feel happy.
On the other hand, some students disagree. In their opinion, they can’t get the expected result from listening to music, as the break between classes is too short. What is needed during the break is peace instead of noise produced by the music. In addition, in class some students are still lost in the music they have heard during the break.
In my opinion, playing some music during the break is necessary, especially after the second period in the morning. And if we play some light music or some pop music that is not so noisy, it will be more popular with us students. Here, I’d like to listen to your opinion.
Yours,
Li Xiang

“在英语剧中扮演角色”应为act in the English play,因此关系代词which前应用介词in,故本题选C。
17.D。当先行词为all,everything,nothing,anything,much,little,few等不定代词时,定语从句常用that而不用which引导。
23.C。whose和of which都可作定语表示“谁的”,但whose须放在无定冠词the的名词前,of which常放在有定冠词the的名词后。例如:China, whose area (the area of which)is about 9,600,000 sq. km., lies in the east of Asia.
25.D。第一个定语从句相当于the judge gave a prize to the artist。 I have been taught painting for two year by the teacher。
29.C。定语从句相当于he invited all his friends to the club。
35.B。在非限定性定语从句中Chinese vase与the price有所属关系,the price of which相当于whose price。
37.D。先行词是3 months,this,that,same均不能用于介词前提的定语从句。
先性词是whenever I met him,我经常遇到他一事,关系代词which代替整个主句。
42.D。which指先行词a road map, 本题考查了介词without加关系代词which的用法。
43.A。 He made another wonderful discovery作先行词的非限定性定语,
从句缺少主语,which代替整个句子作主语,is of great important to为固定词组,I think为插入语。
44.A。先行词the bag是事物,who,whom表示人,this是指示代词,故选关系代词that。
47.A。 in which相当于where,不能作主语;what不能引导定语从句。
51.C。in which指in the earthquake,介词不可以与关系代词that搭配。
52.C。all of whose children中whose在定语从句中作定语,A、B选项看似正确,但不能引导定语从句。
53.B。注意固定词组make an apology to sb.for sth.,所以只有for which正确。
56.A。 第二空考查“It is … that …”
59.D。from which = from the direction。
60.C。 which可以用that代替。

Along a long path we came to a deep valley, on the far side of which the path led into some very thick bushes. Rather than push through up again and rejoin the path on the far side of the bushes.
As I climbed down into the valley a bird flew off h rock on which I had put my hand. On looking at the spot from which the bird had risen, I saw two eggs. They were the kind that I did not have in my collection, so I placed them carefully in my bag, wrapped in a little dry grass.
As we went further down the valley the sides became steeper and not far from where I had entered. It came to drop of about twelve to fourteen feet. The water that rushed down all these small valleys in the rainy season had worn the rock as glass. As it was too deep to climb down, I handed my gun to one of the men and slid down it. My feet had hardly touched the sandy bottom when the two men jumped down, one on each side of me. They quickly gave me the gun and asked me if I had heard the tiger. In fact, I had heard nothing; possibly because of the noise I made sliding down the rock. The men said they had heard a tiger growling somewhere nearby, but they did not know from which direction the noise had come.
