Lesson One Performance
The 1st Period
I. Analysis of the Teaching Material
This text is a review about Alanis Morissette’s live concert. It consists of two parts: the first one is a brief introduction to the rock singer, and the second is a review. The Warm-up will be used as the Lead-in to help the students know more about different styles of music.
II. Analysis of the Students
The students may not be familiar with this Canadian rock singer. And it is probable that they feel it difficult to talk about a live concert.

Step 1 Warm-up
Ask the students to speak out as many words relating to rhythm as possible.
Play a game with the class: The students will be asked to guess what styles of the music they are after listening to several pieces of music.
Get the students to talk about their favourite styles of music and explain why.
Step 2 Lead in
1. Ask the students about their favourite singers. Then ask them whether they know about Alanis Morissette. (Play a part of video of her concert.)
2. The students watch some slides which will help them understand the new words.
Step 3 Reading
1. Ask the students to read the concert review quickly and match the four paragraphs with the titles.(Ex. 2)
2. Ask the students to read the review again and answer the questions in Ex. 3.
3. Have the students work in pairs and try to complete the notes to the text.
Step 4 Speaking
1. Ask the students: Have you ever watched a concert “live”, on TV or on video? Tell the class to make up a dialogue in pairs to talk about a concert. They can use the Key Words to help them.
