Have you ever heard the saying“If you want a friend,be one”?
Here is how one teacher made friends with the girls and boys in her class on the first day of school. As the bell rang, the teacher smiled at each girl and boy. Then she said in a quiet voice(嗓音),“Good morning. How nice it is to have all of you in my class this year.I'd like to know each of you.I am sure we will enjoy working together.” Everyone felt that she meant what she said because of her sweet voice and her friendly look.
She told the girls and boys her name and wrote it on the blackboard. Then she told them some of the things she liked to do and she was hoping to do with them during the year.
Then she said to the class,“Now you know my name and the things I like and I want to know your names and the things you like. Then I will feel that I know you.”

What comes into your mind when you think about robots? Do you imagine armies of evil metal monsters planning to take over the world? Or, perhaps of mechanical men who have been created as guards or soldiers by a mad genius? Or maybe you think of man- like robots who act, think, and look like human beings. In fact robots like these have more to do with science fiction films than with real life. In the real world robots are machines that do jobs which otherwise have to be done by people. Robots either operate by themselves or under the control of a person.
In a car factory, for example, robot machinery can put together and paint car bodies. On the sea bed remote controlled(遥控)underwater machines with mechanical arms can perform tasks too difficult for divers. Robot spacecraft can explore the solar system and send back information about planets and stars.
Many robots have computer brains. Some robots are fitted with cameras, sensors, and microphones which enable them to see, to feel, and to hear. And some robots can even produce electronic speech.
All this does not mean that a robot can think and behave like a human being. Present day robots have to be programmed with a good deal of information before they can carry out even simple tasks.
56. Robots in real life________.
A. can behave like human beings B. have the ability to control the world
C. can think by themselves D. can help us with a lot of work
57. According to this article, which of the following is not true about robots in the real world?

B. Some robots can help manufacture cars.
C. Some robots can see and hear. D. Some robots can explore outer space.
58. Robots can perform many tasks for man because________.

A. mentality B. appearance C. material D. size

In 1895,a man named Raymond Kroc entered a partnership(合营公司)with two brothers named McDonald. They opened a popular restaurant in California which sold food that was easy to prepare and serve quickly. Hamburgers, French fries, and cold drinks were the main food there.Kroc opened similar eating places under the same name“McDonald”,and they were an instant(立即的)success. He later took over the company, and today it is one of the most famous and successful “fast-food” in America and the world.
Why was his idea so successful? Probably the most important reason was that his timing was right. In the 1950s,most married women stayed home to keep house and take care of their children. In the 1960s,many women returned to the workplace, this meant that they had less time and energy to do housework and preparations for meals so they relied more on“TV dinners” and fast-food restaurants.Single parents also have little time to spend in the kitchen.People living alone also depend on this type of food, since cooking for one is often more trouble than it is worth.
Fast-food is not part of the diet of all Americans.Another trend(倾向)of the 1960s,sometimes called the back-to-nature movement influenced(影响)many people to avoid food that was packaged or processed .This preferencefor natural foods continues to this day.
From the success of Raymond Kroc's fast-food business,we can say that social economic trends influence where and what we eat.
59.“Cooking for one is more trouble than it is worth” means _________.
A.cooking for several people is worth more money
B.it is not necessary to take too much time to cook for one person

From good reading we can get pleasure , companionship , experience and instruction . A good book may absorb our attention so completely that for the time being we forget our surroundings and even ourselves . Reading good books is one of the greatest pleasures in life . It increases our contentment when we are cheerful , and lessens our trouble when we are sad . Whatever may be our main purpose in reading , our contact with good books should never fail to give us enjoyment and satisfaction .
With a good book in our hands we need never be lonely . Whether the characters portrayed are taken from real life or purely imaginary , they may become our companions and friends . In the pages of books we can walk with the wise and the good of all lands and all times . The people we meet in books may delight us either because they resemble (像) human friends whom we hold dear or because they present unfamiliar types whom we are glad to welcome as new acquaintances (相识) . Our human friends sometimes may bore us , but the friends we make in books need never weary us with their company . By turning the page we can dismiss without any fear of hurting their feelings . When human friends desert (抛弃) us , good books are always ready to give us friendship , sympathy and encouragement .
One of the most valuable gifts bestowed (授予) by books is experience . Few of us can travel far from home or have a wide range of experiences , but all of us can lead varied lives through the pages of books . whether we wish to escape from the seemingly dull realities of everyday life or we long to visit some far-off place , a book will help us when nothing else can . To travel by book we need no bank account to pay our way , no airship or ocean liner or stream-lined train to transport us , no passport to enter the land of our hearts“ desire . Through books we may get the excitement of dangerous adventure without danger . We can climb noble mountains , brave the freeze of an Antarctic winter , or cross the scorching (灼热) sands of a desert , all without hardship . In books we may visit the studio of Hollywood ; we may mix with the cheerful crowds of the Paris roads ; we may join the picturesque peasants in an Alpine village or the kindly natives on a south Sea island . Indeed , through books the world is ours for the asking . The possibilities of our literary experiences are almost unlimited . The beauties of nature , the enjoyment of music , the treasures of art , the success of architecture , the marvels (惊奇) of engineering , are all open to the wonder and enjoyment of those who read .
63.The main idea of the first paragraph is that .
A.we should always read good books , not bad ones
B.happiness can be gained only from reading
C.enjoyment and satisfaction can be achieved by reading good books
D.reading good books is very important in human life
64.How does the writer account for the fact that people like their acquaintances in books even more ?
A.They never hurt our feelings .
B.They never desert us .
C.They are more lovely than our friends in real life .

65.What does the writer imply in the sentence “Indeed , through books the whole world is ours for the asking”?
A.He implies that we can make a round-the-world trip free of charge .
B.He implies that we can ask to go anywhere in the world .
C.He implies that in books the world is more accessible (易接近) to us .
D.He implies that we can make a demand for everything in this world .
第二节:阅读简答题
Human beings act in a different way from that of animals just because they can speak while animals cannot. Even the cleverest animals cannot do things which to us seem very simple and which small children, as soon as they learn to talk, would be able to do.
A German scientist, who made experiments for many years with big apes, found that his apes could use sticks as tools to pull down bananas which they could not reach. But they only used the stick to get a banana when both the stick and the banana were in view at the same time. If the banana was in front?of them and the stick was behind them, they could not use the stick. They could not bear the banana in mind long enough to look around and pick up the stick and then use it.
The reason for this is clear. We have words for banana and stick which help us to think about these things when they are not in sight. Even a small child knowing the words "banana” and "stick” has an idea of their relationship(关系)and is able to think of "stick" together with "banana” and to remember this long enough to pick the stick from behind and use it on the banana.
Unable?to speak, animals cannot keep their knowledge of things for long. That is why they often interrupt one line of action to do something else and later forget it completely. Human beings, on the other hand, use language and are able to go after one thing continuously and do it with a definite aim.
66. Do human beings and animals act in the same way? Why?
67. What did the German scientist do to find out that some animals could use tools to get food?
