Take out the trash.” Do your parents often say these things to you? Of course, the answer is yes. Why? Well, they are chores, the small everyday duties. In a family someone has to do it every day. You may get money for doing it. You may not. Your parents may ask you to do it, or they may not. When they give you the duty, “could” is often used. This word is often used for requests(请求,要求) politely. You can use it, too. When your friend invited you to her party, if he or she uses “could”, it is nice way to ask permission(允许).
