Part A
Teaching aims:
·Learn some new words and speak correctly.

Teaching aids: courseware and a tape-recorder
Teaching procedures:
Step 1
Warming up : sing a song that learned in unit 1.
Step 2
Bring in photos or pictures of pet animals and the food they eat and drink.
Show the pupils a picture of carrots and a picture of rabbits. Tell the pupils “These are carrots. Rabbits eat carrots.” Write the sentences on the board underlining the s in the plural nouns.
Step 3
Point to the pictures of milk and water and say “Rabbit drink water.” Write this on the board. Tell the pupils we do not put s on water.
Show the pictures of the other types of pet food . Ask What eats (type of food)? Make sure the pupils use the plural forms of the animal names in the answers.
Step 4
Do the same with the pictures of a kitten, a dog and a puppy.
Step 5
Play the pupils’ Book Cassette and point to the speech bubble . Ask the pupils to repeat the cassette.
Step 6
(Books open) Explain that Pat and Tim are showing Koko the animals in a pet shop. They are helping to feed the animals. Ask the pupils to repeat Pat’s sentences.
Step 7
Ask the pupils What animals can you see ?
Step 8
Point to the other animals one by one and ask the pupils to make sentences about what the animals eat and drink .
Step 9
Play a game : start a train(make sentences)

Teaching aims:

·Using the third person singular ‘it’ and the possessive adjective ‘its’.

Don’t give ice-cream to the kitten.
Teaching aids: courseware, a tape-recorder, story cards, character masks and some real objects.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Talk about one’s favourite things. Conduct the students to say about the pets their like.
2. Show some pictures of different pets learned and try to talk about them. Using : Does it eat/drink…? Yes, it does. / No, it doesn’t.
Step 2 Learn the story
1. Bring in a soft toy in the shape of a kitten prepared. Ask the students to see the kitten’s story
2. Introduce Susie’s family and the characters in the story.
3. Point to the characters in the pictures and read their speech bubbles aloud. To help the students to understand the story well, I may explain some important language points here, using different sounds, showing character masks or real object.
Language points:
I’m going to Xi’an. Can you look after my kitten, Susie ? (take care of)
Of course, Grandma. / I’m sorry, Grandma.
It plays with this ball. (We play with someone or something but we play a game)
Don’t give ice-cream to the kitten.
Here you are. (This is what you want)
4. Play the tape for the pupils and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette. Ask them try to learn the tunes and intonations.
Step 3 Practice
Ask and answer some comprehensive questions:
Is the kitten fat or thin?
What does the kitten eat/ drink? It eats/drinks…
It doesn’t eat/ drink…
Where is grandma going to go?
Does Susie like the kitten?
What can the kitten do? It can run and jump.
Can it run and jump now? No, it can’t.
Does the kitten like ice cream?
Tell the students that we mustn’t eat so much ice-cream, because it’s not good for our health.
Ask the pupils to role-play the story in groups of three. Some groups may like to act the story with the aid of the toys, masks or real objects.
Step 4 Finish D Read and tick
Ask the students to read the story again. Show them that they need to read the sentence and then tick the correct picture. Check the answers in class.
Step 5 Conclusion
Read the important language again.

Ⅱ. Presentation ( E. say the sound and the words.)
Play the Pupil’s Book cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words. Point out the spelling of this sound. It is important that the pupils realize the sound is spelt with two letters. Demonstrate how to make the sound and get the pupils to look a t your face while doing so. Check that the pupils are opening their mouths sufficiently and making the sound correctly.
Pronounce the two sounds and tell the difference.
Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the pupils are saying the sound correctly.
Point to the pictures and check that the pupils can say the words without your model.
Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to the rhyme and to tick the correct picture. Get the pupils to say the rhyme.
T read the rhyme one sentence by one sentence, ask Ss to repeat. Let Ss have a competition to memorize the rhyme.

Ask Ss to look at the first part of the page and listen to the Workbook Cassette.
Draw a line to the correct words according to what they hear on the tape.

B Say and act
Presentation
(book closed.) Play a miming game with the students. Pretend to be a kitten. Ask the pupils Who am I? When the pupils guess a kitten, show a picture of a kitten. Then show pictures of the different types of food from the unit. Ask e.g. Does it eat seeds? Write the question forms on the board, i.e. Does it eat…? Does it drink…?Model the answers Yes, it does./No, it doesn’t. for the pupils.
Mime several other animals or get the pupils to come out to mime. Prompt the class to ask questions about what the animal eats and drinks and prompt the correct response.
Practice
(Book open) Show transparency and play the Pupil Book Cassette. The pupils listen and follow in their books. Continue to play the cassette and ask the pupils to repeat the words after the beeps.
Show the pupils the rabbit in the cage. Divide the class into two halves, one to ask Koko’s questions and the other to respond with Pat’s answers.
Explain that Koko wants to know about the food and drink for the other animals. Tell the pupils to look at the small pictures in Koko’s thought bubble. Demonstrate how to ask a question about what each animal eats and drinks, e.g. Does the puppy eat dog food? Does it drink milk? Show the pupils that the answer is in Pat’s thought bubble. Dog food is ticked so the puppy eats dog food. It doesn’t drink milk. Have the class chorus the questions and answer for another animal.
Ask the pupils to work in pairs to role-play Pat and Koko. Remind the pupils that if the answer is No, it doesn’t. They should add a sentence about what the animal does eat or drink.
