Functions: Words and patterns of the unit.
Teaching aims: Ask ‘Wh-’ questions to find out directions.
Use prepositions to indicate position.
Learning aims:Master how to express the positions correctly.
Understand simple instructions and act accordingly. Say words, phrases & sentences correctly. Use proper pronunciation and intonation. Master the skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing of the words and patterns of the unit.
IP & DP: The tenses. The prepositions: beside, between, above, below, out of, on, at, of, for, in into, from, to . The useful expressions: be good for, first… then …, in (color) . The usage of the common verbs and phrases: wash one’s hands, buy something, want/ try to do something, fly/ go out of somewhere,
Teaching aids: CAI, slides, real objects, tapes and tape-recorder
Teaching method: Audio-visual teaching method and scenery method.
Teaching periods: The whole unit will be done in 5 periods.
Period 1
Contents: Words and patterns of Part A .
Teaching aims:Teach the new words and patterns of Part A . Ask ‘Wh-’ questions to find out directions.
Learning aims:Master how to express the positions correctly.
Understand simple instructions and act accordingly. Use proper pronunciation and intonation. Master the skills of listening & speaking of the words and patterns.
IP & DP : Patterns: the usages of G/F, 1/F, 2/F. The usage of the common verbs and phrases: wash one’s hands, buy something, want to do something
Teaching aids: CAI, slide, real objects and tape-recorder
Teaching method: Audio-visual teaching method and scenery method..
Teaching steps:
1. Teaching organization.
Good morning, children. Good morning, Miss .How are you today
Fine, thank you. And you I’m fine, thank you.
2. Teach the words and patterns.
(1). Show the class a picture and ask the class: Where’s the mall The class answers: By the street. Then the teacher says: There’s a shopping mall by the street. The class repeats.
(2) Then the teacher teaches the stores inside the mall: a fast food restaurant, a toy/ pet/ camera/gift shop, and other places: a bank, toilets. The class repeats after.
(3).. Pin the words and the patterns on the blackboard.‘There’s a bank on the ground floor’. Let pupils say aloud the phrases with ‘1/F, 2/F’ by themselves.
Teach how to express what one does in these places---- We can wash our hands in the toilets. Ask the pupils to talk about other places in pairs with the new phrases just learnt ----‘ What can you do in a toy shop I can buy a toy.’ ‘ What do you want to do in a pet shop We want to see pets.’ Then ask some pairs to say the sentences out.
(4). Listen to the tape for Part A. Repeat some words and sentences after the tape. Tell the different usages of G/F, 1/F, 2/F. (slides)
3. Sum up the points. (CAI)

C. What can you do in a toy shop I can buy a toy.
D. What do you want to do in a pet shop We want to see pets.

Homework: Listen to the tape for Part A. Read the notes. Copy the words & phrases.

Understand simple instructions and act accordingly. Say words, phrases & sentences correctly. Use proper pronunciation and intonation. Master the skills of listening, speaking & reading of the words and patterns of the unit.
IP & DP: The prepositions: beside, between, above, below, out of, on. The usage of the common verbs and phrases: wash one’s hands, buy something, want/ try to do something, fly/ go out of somewhere.
Patterns: There’s / There are a bird / two birds beside the door. I can see one bird above the window.

2. Going over the words which were learned last period.
A.. Let pupils say aloud the phrases by themselves using the pattern. e.g. There is a … on the first floor.
B. Ask the pupils to talk in pairs with the patterns, e.g. What do you want to do in the … I want to ….
3. New lesson.
(1). Go on Step 2 . Teach some more verb phrases ‘ fly / go / walk / run out of …, try to do …(CAI)
(2). Put the phrases in the patterns ‘Where can you run/ walk out of We can …’
(3).Practice the sentences in groups of 4. Show different pictures: Where can you see the birds We can see one beside the door. There is a bird beside the door. (CAI)
(4). Listen to the tape for Part A & B. Repeat after. Explain the meanings. (slides of A & B)
(5) Sum up. (CAI)

Say words, phrases & sentences correctly. Use proper pronunciation and intonation. Master the skills of listening, speaking & reading of the words and patterns.
IP & DP: The prepositions: beside, between, above, below, out of, on, at, of, in. The usage of the common verbs and phrases: wash one’s hands, buy something, want/ try to do something, fly/ go out of somewhere. The general & special questions. Making sentences & dialogues.
Teaching aids: CAI, slide and tape-recorder
Teaching steps:
1. Teaching organization.
2. Going over the words learned last two periods.
A. Let pupils say aloud the phrases by themselves using the pattern.
B. Talk in pairs or in the group of four with the patterns: Do you/I/ we/ they ( want to ) do … What do you/I/we/they do/ want to … . Then ask some pairs to act their dialogue out.
3. Practice.
(1). Do as Part B 2. Pupils go to the front in turns. ‘ Is there a … on the first floor Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t. Where is the market It is on/ beside the … there is a … on the …’ Express while tick and cross on the board. Sum up the amount.
(2) Use the information on board to make dialogues ‘What shop can you see on the second floor I / We can see a bookshop on the second floor. ’ ‘Can you see / find a bank on the on the second floor Yes, we can. / No, we can’t.’ Talk in pairs or groups with the patterns above. .
(3). Play a guessing game.
Ask a pupil to go out and do an action. The others guess what he/she wants to buy, what shop he/she is going to go and where the shop is.. Teacher can offer two or three choices to let them guess. Use the patterns they’ve learnt.
. (4) Read and act out the story of Part B 2.
(plete the dialogue and check the answers of B 3.

The useful expressions: be good for, first… then …, The usage of the common verbs and phrases: wash one’s hands, buy something, want/ try to do something, fly/ go out of somewhere. The written Ex.
Teaching aids: CAI, photos, pictures, tapes and tape-recorder
Teaching steps:
1. Teaching organization. (everyday talk)
2. Practice in orally way.
1). Get some friends’ pictures to describe or make some dialogues about the places..
A. P1: Look! This is a bookshop. Let’s go and buy a book.
P2: O.K. P1: I like this book. How much is it
S. A. : It’s twelve yuan. P1: It’s too dear.
P2: I have one. You can borrow mine.
B. Questions about the statement: What shop can you see on the second floor I / We can see a bookshop on the second floor. ’ ‘Can you see / find a bank on the on the second floor Yes, we can. / No, we can’t.’
2). Learn C. Practice the phrases: be good for, do something for somebody, there he is. Learn the verb phrases and put them in the dialogues.
3). Ask and answer some questions about A by themselves.
4 ) Make performance as Part C.
5) Do the Ex. of Part D.
