Period 1
Teaching aims:
Help students to know about the form of an English letter
Guide students to learn to write an English letter.
Make students take notes from a short passage.
Review the key patterns learned in the previous units.
Teaching procedures:
I.Read an e-mail on Internet
1. Open an e-mail on Internet and show it to the class, tell the students to pay attention to the form of an English letter.
Dear Gyesoon,
How are you going? I miss you very much. Thank you very much for your great help to me. I won’t forget the happy days we spent together in UK. Did you have a good time at Christmas? What did you do in holiday?
It’s winter in China now. It’s cold and dry. Chinese New Year is coming soon, I will have a long winter holiday. I will go to my hometown and stay together with my mother, sister and brothers. It will be great fun.
Please write and tell me about yourself and your family.

2. Make the students read the letter carefully once again, then answer the following questions
1) Who is this letter from?
2) Where is Gyesoon now?
3) What’s the weather like in China now?
4) What will Lisa do at Chinese New Year?
III. Read the letter in Part A, unit 5
Play the video, explain that it is a letter to Pat from her pen friend, Jack. Jack is telling Pat about himself in his letter. Ask the students to listen to and read the letter carefully.
Demonstrate how to make notes from the letter about Jack by finding out the relevant information.
Tell the students to complete the notes, then check the answers.
IV. Rewrite the following sentences

Unit 5 Revision
Period 2
Teaching aims:
1. Help the students to go over the key patterns in Unit 2
2. Talk about rules by using prohibitions and imperatives
3. Make the students know what they should do and what they shouldn’t do at school.
Teaching procedures:
I. Revision
1. Make the students listen and chant a passage on page 16 in textbook, helping the students to go over the main contents in unit 2.
2. Ask the class what they should do and what they shouldn’t at school, then make them have a discussion and write out some school rules by using “should” and “shouldn’t ” patterns.
II. Presentation (part B)
1. Keep the students’ textbook closed, show the pictures to the class and ask the students to look at the pictures.
2. Explain that Jill is ill in hospital. Then tell the students to guess what the nurses are saying to Jill in each of the pictures, make the students talk about the pictures one by one in simple English.
3. Ask the students to fill in the blanks for each picture, then check the answers with the whole class.
III. Practice
1. Play the video and make the students listen to the passage and read it aloud several times. Make the students role play the story in pairs, one acts as Jill, the other acts as the nurse.
2. Show more pictures and ask the students to make up sentences using the “should” and “shouldn’t” patterns.
3. Suppose a child feels sick, he/she goes to see the doctor. Tell the students to make up a dialogue between the child and the doctor, and act it out in front of the class.
IV. Summary and homework
Sum up what is learnt today to the class
Set homework: Make a list of school rules (at least 10 sentences)

Period 3
Teaching aims:
1. Help the students to go over the key words and patterns in Unit 3
2. Talk about the weather and dressing in different seasons
Teaching procedures:
I. Ask the students some questions to help them go over the key words and patterns in Part C, Unit 5.
Question 1: How many seasons are there in a year?
Question 2: What are the four seasons in a year? (show the pictures of four seasons on power-point presentation)
Question 3: What’s the weather like in spring? (warm and wet and rainy)
Question 4: What’s the weather like in summer? (hot and wet and rainy)
Question 5: What’s the weather like in autumn? (cool, windy and dry)
Question 6 : What’s the weather like in winter? (cold , windy and snowy)
Then make students have a conversation and talk about the seasons and the weather in pairs.
II. Show some pictures of clothes and make the students say out the names of the clothes, ask the students what clothes they wear in different seasons.
Question 1: What’s your favorite season?
Question 2: Why do you like spring/ summer/autumn/winter?
Question 3: What do you like to wear in spring/summer/autumn/winter?
III. Ask the students to read Pat’s poem. Explain to the students that Pat is answering the poem machine’s questions to write their own poems. Make the students write down their own poems at the bottom of the page, then draw a picture for their poems.
IV. Make the students present their poems and pictures, ask the students to talk about their works in English in groups, then make a few students go to the front and demonstrate their works.
V. Homework
Do the exercises on page 8, 9 in Workbook.
Unit 5 Revision
Period 4
Teaching aims:
1. Help the students to go over the imperative sentences
2. Talk about habitual actions
3. Make the students know more about healthy habits for children
Teaching procedures:
I. Finish the exercises on page 36 in Unit 5
1. Play the video and show some pictures, tell the students to read the habits and ask them if they know which are good habits.
2. Ask the pupils to choose the good habits and put a tick in the corresponding box.
3. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask the pupils to listen to the cassette and check.
II. Talk about some other good habits
1. Show the class some pictures of new words and phrases in Unit 1, help them to go over the contents of this unit.
2. Make the students say out some good habits according to the pictures, then write them on the board. Eg: I brush my teeth twice a day/I wash my face twice a day/I comb my hair once a day/I finish my homework at 9:00 pm/I pack my school bag every night…
3. Tell the class to work in groups and find out more good habits at home and at school.
III. Surf the Internet and learn something about healthy life style.
