Unit One Hello, Gogo!
Period Three
I. Teaching objectives:
1. Arouse the students’ interest;
2. Review of Student’s Book I;
3. Learn some new words.
II. Teaching key points:
Words: notebook, snake, soup, pink, pencil case, butterfly, steak, gray thanks, this, that, these, those, mother, father;
Sentences: What’s this It’s a butterfly. I like chicken. What do you like I like steak. How are you Fine, thanks.
III. Teaching difficult points:
the spelling of the words, the sound of “th” IV.
Ⅳ. Teaching aids:
tape recorder, word cards, slide, real things, colored pencils
Ⅴ.Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Greeting with the song “Hello”
Step 2 Revise the words with word games
Step 3 Dictation of the words
Step 4 Teach Review
Ask some students “ What do you like ” Play a mini-research about your classmates in two minutes While pointing to the picture of Gogo and Jenny and the one of Gogo and Tony, model the dialogues. T: Listen and repeat. Play the tape, pausing after each sentence so Ss can repeat.
Step 5 Teach the song
1. Play the tape and point to each word and sentence as it is sung.
2. Divide class into two teams. One team sings the “Hello! How are you ” part and the second team sings the “Fine, thanks. Part”.
3. Encourage Ss to join in the singing when they are ready.
Step 6 Activity 1
Getting ready: Draw simple sketches of previously learned vocabulary on the board. Using colored chalk, color in the sketches.
T: What’s this What color is it While drawing and coloring them on the board. Elicit responses and model responses. Using the book: Have Ss look at the pictures in this activity.
T: Look and repeat. Duck. Yellow duck. Continue with the rest of the items. Point out the speech bubbles above Gogo’s, Tony’s and Jenny’s heads. Encourage Ss to quiz one another using these questions.
Step 7 Activity 2
Have Ss work in small groups or pairs.
T: Color the balloon. Color the rabbit. Use any color you want. After Ss are finished coloring the pictured items, teach Ss how to play slap! Call out an item and a color.
T: Purple umbrella. Hopefully, at least one student has colored his/ her umbrella purple. Ss who have purple umbrellas on their pages should slap the picture and say purple umbrella. Continue until all items have been called out with a couple of different colors each.
Step 8 Finish workbook Exercises 4.
Step 9 Check the answer of workbook.
Step 10 Conclusion
Step 11 Homework
1. Dictate the words at home.
2. Sing the song to your parents.
3. Make sentences of activity 1.
4. Preview of P8.
