Period Two
I. Teaching objectives:
1. Learn to Describe people, animals and things.
2. Describe people, animals and things around you.
II. Teaching key points:
Words: happy, sad, heavy, light, hot, cold, big, small, thin thick, bathroom, math, thumb, thanks.
Sentences: We’re happy! They’re cold. I’m big. She’s small.
III. Teaching difficult points:
The new sentences are difficult for students to learn. Teachers should pay more attention to them.
IV. Teaching aids:
Tape recorder, word cards, slide, real things, Gogo VCD.
V. Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Sing two songs
Step 2 Revise the words
Step 3 Guessing game
Step 4 Act it out.
Choose some groups to act out in class.
Step 5 Practice 1
Point to Picture A and ask Ss questions about it.
T: Is it a boy or girl Is he hot
Elicit responses and do the same for the other three pictures. Have Ss guess what the dialogues are going to be.
T: Let’s listen. Play the tape for number 1, the pause.
T: Which picture is it” Is it B Is it D While Ss are responding, gradually move your hand to Picture C.
T: This is number 1. C is number 1. Continue with the other three pictures, pausing after each one.
Step 6 Practice 2
Walk around the room asking Ss questions. Move around the room and ask questions quickly to keep Ss focused.
T: Are you cold Are you sad Elicit responses and encourage Ss to ask you questions with the unit’s vocabulary words. Play the tape and have Ss answer. After listening and answering questions, have Ss ask these four questions to other Ss in pairs or small groups. Encourage Ss to use complete sentences and express their real feelings.
