Unit two They’re big
Period Three
I. Teaching objectives:
1. Learn to Describe people, animals and things.
2. Describe people, animals and things around you.
II. Teaching key points:
Words: happy, sad, heavy, light, hot, cold, big, small, thin thick, bathroom, math, thumb, thanks.
Sentences: We’re happy! They’re cold. I’m big. She’s small.
III. Teaching difficult points:
The new sentences are difficult for students to learn. Teachers should pay more attention to them.
IV. Teaching aids:
Tape recorder, word cards, slide, real things, Gogo VCD.
V. Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Daily report
Step 2 Dictate the words
Step 3 Teach Target
1. Ask for several volunteers to come to the front of the room. Arrange them so that there is at least one boy standing alone, one girl standing alone and at least two Ss standing together.
2. Hand out Picture Cards to the Ss and ask them to hold them up to the class. T: He’s big. (Point to the boy standing alone.)
3. Point to the other volunteers and ask Ss in the class to make sentences about them and the Picture Cards.
4. Point to the picture and model the dialogue.
T: Listen and repeat. Play the tape, pausing after each sentence so Ss can repeat.
Step 4 Teach Chant
Play the tape and point to each word and sentence as it is chanted. Divide Ss into two groups. All Ss chant the I’m happy Hey! Hey! I’m happy part. One group chants the question while the other chants the answer. Then switch roles. Ss can be put into smaller groups or pairs when they are confident enough.
Step 5 Activity 1
Have Ss look at the pictures in this activity.
T: Open your books Write these words in the eight boxes. Every student will put the words in different boxes. Make a statement and have Ss check off that word from their bingo grid in pencil. Continue until someone gets three words in a row and calls out Bingo! After playing as a class, have Ss play in small groups. One student in each group can be the announcer. Have the announcers rotate regularly.
Step6 Activity 2
Point to I’m at the top and trace the blue line to the picture and to hot. Circulate around the classroom and check how Ss are doing. If some Ss are having a difficult time, pair them with more advanced Ss for help. Continue walking around the room until all Ss are finished with the activity. Have Ss work in pairs to check each other’s work.
