Unit two They’re big
Period Four
I. Teaching objectives:
1. Learn to Describe people, animals and things.
2. Describe people, animals and things around you.
II. Teaching key points:
Words: happy, sad, heavy, light, hot, cold, big, small, thin thick, bathroom, math, thumb, thanks.
Sentences: We’re happy! They’re cold. I’m big. She’s small.
III. Teaching difficult points:
The new sentences are difficult for students to learn. Teachers should pay more attention to them.
IV. Teaching aids:
Tape recorder, word cards, slide, real things, Gogo VCD.
V. Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Use “ Are you … ”to ask your partner questions.
Step 2 Sing a chant
Step 3 Getting ready: write the word mother on the board.
T: What’s this word (Ss: It’s mother)
T: Do you remember the sound Today’s sound is similar. Look at my mouth. It looks the same (Point to your mouth.)
T: Let’s practice the sound. Look at my mouth and repeat. (Model putting your tongue against your front. If necessary, have Ss place their fingers on their throats to distinguish θ and δ. δ Ss feel the vibration of the vocal cords; δ Ss don’t feel it. Have Ss look at the pictures on the page. Say each word.
T: Let’s listen to the tape. Play the tape and have Ss point to each word. T: Let’s listen again, and this time, repeat. Have Ss repeat after the tape. Help Ss if they have difficulty making the sound.
Step 4 Chant Have Ss look at the pictures next to the lyrics.
T: (point to the thin pizza.) Is it thin (Ss: Yes, it is.)
T: (Point to the thick books) Are they thin (Ss: No, they aren’t.
T: Let’s listen to the chant. Play the tape once.
T: Now, listen and point to the thin and thick pictures. Play the tape again and have Ss point to the thin objects when they hear the word thick.
T: OK. Let’s chant together. Play the tape and have Ss chant along.
