Culture 1 Clothing
Teaching objects:
New words: hat, scarf, coat, gloves, jeans, boots, dress, sandals, tennis shoes, skirt, T-shirt, school uniform, backpack, sweater.
Teaching key points:
1. The students know more clothing;
2. They can use the drills correctly What’s that It’s a/ an…. What are those They’re …. Teaching difficult points:
the pronunciation of the letter “ s ” Teaching aids: radio, pictures of clothing, words cards.
Period One
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Warming-up
(Hold up something and ask) What’s this/ that It’s a …(skirt, jacket) (Point to something and ask) What are these/ those They’re ….(shorts, shirts, shoes).
Step 2 Presentation
Hold up a hat and ask
T: Is this a cap
Ss: No, it isn’t.
T: Right, it’s a hat. Then teach the words “hat”, get some students or a group to read.
Using the same way to teach the new words: scarf, T-shirt, coat, jeans, dress, sweater.
Step 3 Play the tape, get the Ss to follow the tape and point to the correct word.
Step 4 Practise with the whole class
T: What’s this (the teacher shows one student a picture)
S1: It’s a scarf. (answer loudly)
Ss: It’s a scarf. (the students wearing a scarf stand up, point to the scarf and answer loudly) Play the game two more times, then get some students to be a teacher, let him or her ask and judge right or wrong.
Step 5 Pass a message
1. What are those They are coats.
2. What’s that It’s a hat.
3. What is this It’s a skirt.
4. What are these They’re gloves.
Step 6 Homework
1. Listen to the tape three times.
2. Make the word cards.
3. Going on carrying the clothing you like in the book.
Period Two
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Using the word cards or the pictures to review the words and the drills taught in the last period.
Step 2 Hold up a pair of boots and ask
T: What are these
T: They are boots. (get the whole class to read together) Ss say together, then boots boots twice to each other. Then teach the words “boots”, get some students or a group to read. Using the same way to teach the new words: sandals, tennis shoes, school uniform, backpack.
Step 3 Play the tape, get the Ss to follow the tape and point to the correct word.
Step 4 Target Listen to the tape and read after it. Model the dialog and let the class practise it. Step 5 Homework:Revise P63 and prepare P64.
Period Three
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Practice 1
Look at the pictures and answer the questions: What’s this/ that What are these/ those What color is it What color are they What do you like Do you like…
Step 2 Free talk just like the following:
T: They’re shorts. I like shorts.
Step 3 Practice 2
Let the students listen to the tape and finish Practice 2, then check the answers.
Step 4 Homework Prepare Culture 2
Writing on the blackboard:
hat, scarf, coat, gloves, jeans, boots, dress, sandals, tennis shoes, skirt, T-shirt, school uniform, backpack, sweater.
