Spring Festival
The most important festival for the Chinese people is
Spring Festival. All Chinese, at home and abroad, celebrate
it.
The festival is celebrated at the turn of a Chinese
calendar year. It starts on the eve, the last night of the old
year. On the eve the Chinese people have a family dinner.
Then they stay up till midnight to welcome the New Year
with firecrackers.
During the festival days, people wear new clothes,
have big meals, and go to all kinds of entertainments. They
visit friends and relatives and greet each other with the
best wishes. Children receive “ lucky money” wrapped in
red paper. Lion dances and other performances are also

By the way, while visiting the zoo, you’d better
not feed the animals with the food you take. And

Some people think that smoking makes them
look cool and helps them relax. I don’t agree. In
my opinion, not only Is smoking harmful for
people’s health, but it also makes people look bad.
First of all, as everyone knows, cigarettes
contain nicotine. If you smoke lots of cigarettes,
the nicotine in them will hurt different parts of your
body and make you sick. The worst thing is that
people also get addicted to nicotine. Once you
start smoking, it’s very hard to give up. Also,
smoking givesyou yellow fingers, yellow teeth and bad breath.
No one would think that is cool in any way.
Besides, cigarettes cost a lot of money, which
could be otherwise spent on more useful things,
like books, clothes or CDs.
As you can see, smoking does nothing good for
us. I hope more and more people will realize this
and try their best not to smoke.

Nowadays, the world is facing the big problem of
energy shortages. The energy that we can use is
running out day by day. Maybe one day we will all
end up drinking dirty water if we don’t do anything
about it. Here are some things that everyone can
do to help save energy.
First, we must try not to use too much air
conditioning during the summer months. That
consumes a great deal of electricity. Second, we
should try to remember to turn off the shower while
washing our hair. Third, we must not let leaky
taps run all day. Fix them as soon as possible.
Also, try to close the fridge door as soon as
possible. This will save a lot of electricity and is good for
the fridge as well. Another thing we can try is to
ride our bicycles instead of driving cars or riding
buses. They “drink” lots of petrol, which comes
from oil, a nonrenewable resource. Finally, don’t
forget to turn off the lights when leaving a room.
It doesn’t take much time but saves a lot of
electricity. I hope more and more people will
realize the importance of energy saving and do
what they can to use less so that life on earth will
be good in the future.

Nowadays advertisements are everywhere.
I think advertisements have both good and bad
effects on young students.
On one hand, advertisements give us
information about things to buy. They make it
easier for us to choose the best product. Also,
some advertisements are beautifully designed
and pleasant to look at.
But on the other hand, they can make trouble
for us. First, most advertisements look attractive
and they persuade us to buy things we don’t need
at all. This is especially bad for young people. They are
not making money yet. So they have to ask money
yet. So they have to ask for money from their
parents. Sometimes they buy lots of junk food
because the advertisements look delicious. This is
not healthy for them. What’s more, some
advertisements don’t tell the truth. Many people
find themselves cheated after using certain
products.
In short, advertisements have pros and cons.
As young students, we should learn to deal with
them.

afraid of . The results go as follows. Li Tao is most
afraid of mice because once a mouse stared at him
and jumped on his shoes and scared him away.
He Jiali doesn’t like swimming because of a film in
which the animals living in the sea attacked
swimmers. Li Yuxiang is afraid of being alone, so
he likes making friends. Li Yun’s answer is special.
He hopes that people care for each other. Everyone
has something that scares him. But if we have a

Today I had a very exciting day because our
school did something for environmental
production.
We started the project in the afternoon.
Everyone was busy working. Some students made
posters that told people the importance of
environmental protection. Then they put them on
the bulletin neighborhood to help clean up. They
picked up waste paper and plastic bags. Some
students were clearing up the gum stuck to the
ground on campus. I went with the group that dealt with small paper
advertisements on the walls. It was hard work. We
used knives and even fingernails to clear them.
At the end of the day, we were exhausted but
happy. It was a day to be remembered.
(九)Today I did a survey, asking my classmates how
much money they got in their red envelopes. Most
of my classmates got about 600 Yuan from their
parents and relatives. But some didn’t get any at all.
Everyone who got money has plans on how to
spent it. Wu Zheng wants to keep it in the bank and
watch it grow, because he hopes to be able to pay
for his college one day. Wang Ye would like to spent
most of it on school fees. He wants to be more
independent. Ren Min is saving his money for
traveling during the holidays, because he really
loves to see the world around him. Anyway, the
survey shows that students are getting more and
more money, and they should try to find good ways

One morning while I was on my way to school,
I found a black wallet lying on the ground. I picked
it up quickly. Should I take it to a policeman? What
if the owner was looking for it now? Finally,
I decided to wait there for some time. It was still
early anyway. About ten minutes later, a young
man came over. He was checking the road carefully,
looking worried. He must be the owner, I thought.
I went over to him and asked. Sure enough, he was
the one I was waiting for. When I showed him the
wallet, he was so grateful that he smiled and invited
