Module 4 Unit 10 Lesson 40 Advertisements
Time Allocation: 2 periods
Teaching Goals:
①To develop students’ ability of fast reading and consulting information
②To develop students’ ability of how to promote a product by using some adjectives related to the advertisement
Teaching Importance:
①To develop students’ ability of fast reading and consulting information
②How to promote a product by using some adjectives related to the advertisement
Teaching Difficulties
①To master the new words related to the advertisement
②To learn to use the adjectives concerned about the advertisement
Teaching Methods:
①task-based learning, ②asking & answering, ③group learning
Teaching Aids: Multimedia,blackboard
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Show Ss three short video advertisements to produce the following questions:
① Where did you see them (over the TV)
② Why are these videos shown on the TV (to let people know their products)
③ Lead into the topics of the text
Step 2 Before Reading
① Do a game-guessing to drill the use of the vocabulary concerned about the advertising as well as to cultivate the atmosphere of learning. eg. mobile phone:
Student A: It has no wires or cables and the signals are clear and gives you freedom .
Student B: It may be worth¥1800 to ¥3300 or at least ¥2650
(Other topics: a gold necklace, a digital cameral, a new refrigerator, …)
② Do Ex.1.and learn the Key Words
Step 3 Speaking
For a start, Teacher gives a sample to describe a product. eg.
I think electric toothbrushes are not very practical. But it’s a little expensive……Then
① ask Ss to tell in which ways they would like to describe a product and offer some adjectives concerned.
② get Ss to pick out a familiar product and talk about it after the sample by using those special adjectives.
Step 4 Fast Reading
1. Ask Ss to read through the texts fast and then answer the questions below:

Q2: What’s the price of the product
2. Fill in the form with the information from the text

Step 5 Careful Reading:
Do Ex.3 in group work.
Read the text and note down the advantages of each product. (each advert has at least 3 advantages). Find opinions and look for adjectives

Step 6 After-Reading
Do Ex.2 Look at the advertisements. Think about which of the gadgets are real. (various answers)
Step 7 Pair Work
① Do Ex.4 Learn to use the expressions of the advertising
② Do Ex.7 Suppose you were a seller. Choose one thing and try to sell it to your partner. Please make a dialogue.
Step 8 Work on Vocabulary
Do Exx.5, 6. Learn the adjective formation and practise their usages.
Step 9 HOMEWORK
(1)Finish off the vocabulary tasks about the Adjectives on Page 15.
