Introduction to inversion倒装句
倒装句主要指的是谓语语序倒装,当然也有宾语和表语语序的倒装.将谓语的一部分提到主语之前叫部分倒装,将谓语的全部提到主语之前叫全部倒装.
倒装方法 何时倒装 例示
全部倒装不借助动词 1.here, there, away, down, in,up, off out, now, then, next, thus等副词开头的句子里，以示强调2.地点介词短语做状语位于句首时 1. Mr smith came in.= In came Mr. Smith.= In he came.2. The boy rushed out.=Out rushed the boy.=Out the rushed.3. On the other side of the street stands the clock tower.=The clock tower stands on the other side of the street.4. There lived an old peasant in that house.5. AT the foot of the mountain lies a small town.= A small town lies art the foot of the mountain.
3. 表语置于句首时，保持句子平衡，以示强调表语，或上下文衔接。 Aristotle says, “plato is dear to me, but dearer still is truth.”Gone are the days when they could do what they like to the Chinese people.]Present at the party were the Smiths, the Whites and so on.Covering much of the earth’s surface is water.
4. 直接引语的一部分或全部位于句首时，有时也用倒装 Yes“, said the youth shortly.“I don’t understand,” he said.
倒装从句 Only then could the work of construction be begun.Only through hard work can you succeed.Only ten days later did I realize my fault.Only when Mr. smith came back were we able to continue to programme.* . Had it not been for the clouds, you would find the airplane in the sky easily. = if it hadn’t been for the clouds, you would find the airplane in the sky easily.Were you in my position, you would do the same. = If you were in my position, you would do the same.Should they attack us, we’ll wipe them out completely.= If they should attack us, we’ll wipe them out completely.
前倒后不倒不倒装 Not only did he complain about the food, he also refused to pay for it.*2 Not only men but also women are affected by the new law.
前后都倒装不倒装 I don’t know how to play bridge.Neither does my wife.Neither Tom nor his brother likes painting.
