Task 1 Lead-in
T: As you know the topic of this unit is transport, thus today we’ll talk about car culture. The key point of this lesson is the relation among car, human and environment. Now I’ve a question for you-‘What does cars bring to human being ’
S1: I think car brings us convenience
S2: I don’t agree with John, in my opinion, car causes a lot of pollution.
S3:…….
T: Your ideas are very good,but I believe your ideas are not overall, for every coin has two sides.
If you want to deal with this question, let’s enter into the text.
Task 2 Skimming
T: Now you have 5 minutes to skim the whole text, then complete the note on the P42
After that we’ll check the answers.
(5 minutes later…)
T: okay, now you have looked over the whole text. And we fill the note together. “Number of the cars” . the answer is…
Ss: has gone up by 30%

T: Through the note, we can summary the strategyof making notes, you can make a note from names, numbers, percentages, objects, times. Therefore I suggest you should have learned to use this strategy from now on.

(1) basic meaning-捡起,拿起
(2) 获取,收集,学会
e.g Young children soon picked up words they hear their elder use.

(3) pick up means 无意中听到
e.g. We pick up signals for help when listening to the radio.
(4) pick up sb means 接某人 搭救某人
(5) 康复,好转
It looks as though the weather may pick up very soon.
(6)也有加速之意
The speed of the car began to pick up.
