I think the most terrible thing in life for my little brother is getting up in the morning. He is almost sick when my mother calls, "Herbert! It's seven o'clock! Get up!"
Herbert answers, "I'm coming!" and goes right back to sleep. I'm not at all like my brother. I don't like to go to bed at night but I don't mind getting up in the morning. I usually wake up before my mother calls me. I jump out of bed and go into the bathroom to take a shower. I get dressed, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and get ready to go downstairs for breakfast as soon as my mother calls.
But not Herbert. He just sleeps. A military band (军乐队) in our bedroom could not wake him up. I call him and say, "Get up! Mum will be up here to pull you out of bed if you don't get up immediately!"
But he just sleeps. After calling a few more times my mother has to come upstairs and pull Herbert out of bed. It's that way every day with my little brother. Perhaps some day he'll learn to get up on time, but I really don't think so.

She was taken on to a lifeboat before the ship went down under the water. A few days later she and the other two men got to a small island. They had neither food nor dry clothes. The girl tried to mend her broken jacket and skirt while the men went to look for something to eat. But she failed, she could find nothing useful. Some days passed and nobody came to save them. The girl lost her confidence and tried to kill herself. Her new friends found this and looked after her better.
On the eighth day the girl saw a ship far away. She told her friends about it and they began to wave(挥舞)her red jacket. The men on the ship found it and they carried them to the ship. All the people and her friends were happy, but the girl looked sad.
“You must be hungry,” said the captain(船长). “Go to eat something first.”

A mother camel was walking with her son through the desert. They were looking for water and grass.
The son asked his mother what water and grass looked like. The mother replied that water was blue and looked like the sky, while grass was green and nice.
After they had walked a day and a night, her son suddenly cried. ‘Look, mother, there is water and grass over there.’ ‘What a foolish talk, child!’ The water and grass were on the left, while the desert was on the right. Because the mother camel had been blind in her left eye since she was a baby, she could see nothing with her left eye.
After they had gone on another day and night, the young camel found a second oasis(绿洲), but his mother did not believe him. She said that was not an oasis, but a desert. She said she knew more than her son and couldn’t be wrong. Her son got angry. When he saw an oasis again, he left his mother without telling her. He ran into the grass and ate his fill.

What is colour Why do some of the things around us look red, some green, others blue
Colours are really made by reflected(反射) light. We see colours because most of the things reflect light. Something is red, for it reflects most of the red light. In the same way, if something is green it reflects most of the green light. If something reflects all light, it is white.
Some of the light is reflects and some is taken in(吸收) and turned into heat. The darker the colour is, the less light is reflected, the more light is taken in. So dark-coloured clothes are warmer in the sun than light-coloured clothes.
