If you haven’t seen this film, I’d like to introduce this film to you briefly.
Andy succeeds in finding a job as a secondary assistant to a hit fashion magazine’s top manager.
By working hard, she slowly begins standing on her own feet at the job. Though millions of girls would kill for that job, the girl quits the job and gets back to her original life in order to live happily.
Can you guess why Andy quits that glamorous job
Guess the meaning of the word glamorous.----- attractive/exciting
Look at this girl. How glamorous she is!
She has a glamorous face. It is very attractive.
The party is exciting. It’s a glamorous party.
I want you to answer this question after reading today’s article.

Now you can read para1 quickly and try you best to confirm what you guess.
Do you think your guess is right What the author is going to discuss
the options available the meaning of the word “options”---different choices
whether the jobs are suited to you
So when you read a passage you’d better pay attention to the title and the first paragraph to get the main idea.
Step3 scanning
Now please read the first paragraph again, and answer me some questions

It is a time for hard work and also a time for reflection.
What’s the meaning of “reflection”.
careful thoughts about something, sometimes for a long period of time.
What are the three types of jobs the author talks about
popular jobs, unusual jobs, everyday jobs
When you read a passage you can find the main idea from the title and the first paragraph
Do you know where you can find the author’s opinion?
Generally speaking, even if every paragraph may reflect the author’s opinion, the last paragraph will be the best choice for him to stress his own opinion.
So please read the last paragraph. And try to find the sentences that express the author’s opinion.
Remember that some glamorous jobs can be rather difficult. Some ordinary jobs can be quite important.
According to these sentences, it seems that the author has negative attitudes towards glamorous jobs but has positive attitude towards ordinary jobs.
Please read the passage again and try to find what are the glamorous jobs mentioned in the passage.
models, actors, actresses, lawyers, business persons
These jobs are called glamorous jobs, which means a lot of people want to get them.
Why do so many people want to get these jobs?
For unsuccessful actors, actresses and models: being famous
wear dimonds
go to parties
relax on cushions in private jets or helicopters
For lawyer or business persons : well-paid /interesting jobs
So many people want to get these jobs.
However the author has negative attitudes towards the glamorous jobs, why
For unsuccessful actors, actresses and models: They have to work as waiters and waitresses.
For successful ones: They have to spend long hours traveling, deal with constant media attention, be very thick-skinned, go on diet to keep young and beautiful, have painful surgery to make their faces and bodies look more attractive.
(They may not have the right to love or to be loved in public. What a pity!)
For lawyer or business persons: they have to face the stress and the pressure
work very long hour
hurt people
involve facing moral issues
If a rich man invites the lawyer to defend for him, the lawyer should do it, although the man breaks the law.
Where can you find something about glamorous jobs Para 2-3
So the author said a career as a local grocer or a baker would be a better option.
Also, the author has listed a lot of ordinary jobs in this passage, what are they Where can you find it
shop assistants, drivers, barbers, cleaners
from paragraph 5, you can find some more sentences to show that the author has positive attitude towards ordinary jobs
Please find these sentences
1)many ordinary jobs may look dull, but they are as essential as water to our body.
2)These jobs may not seem very attractive, but they are all important.
3)These people ,who perform such ordinary but vital tasks, allow people to go about their daily lives.
(All these sentences show that the author is in favour of the ordinary jobs.)
But if you want to make your opinion persuasive, you’d better use the examples
The author use the example of cleaners to prove his idea.
Besides the two types, the author has mentioned another type of jobs. What is it In which para
unusual jobs. In para4
what jobs belong to the unusual jobs according to the author
noise pollution testers,
Do you think the man enjoys his job How do you know that
beer tasters,(if you enjoy drinking beer very much, this job maybe a good choice.)
firework display designers,(such as the 2008 Olympic Games, the footprint fireworks are so wonderful. The designers are so important)
testers of amusement park rides(I believe this job is a bit challenging while meaningful.)
Do you think the author has positive or negative attitude towards the unusual jobs Which sentence shows the author’s positive attitude toward these unusual jobs
All these people love their jobs, which might not be popular, but are interesting regardless.
So the article can reflect author’s opinion.
We have finished reading the passage
Can you divide this passage into 3 parts
Part1(1) The author points out what to discuss
Part2(2-5) different types of the jobs
Part3(6) author’s opinion

Because the job seems exciting but actually very difficult. Andy has to work very long hours and she works under great stress and pressure.

I think when you choose the job, you’d better consider all the aspects of the jobs. And choose the one which suits you the most. I believe the one which suits you the most is the best.
I’d like you to read a poem to end today’s class.
If you want to be a spy like James Bond 007,
you need to be as cool as a cucumber and as sly as a fox
and you need cast iron nerves.
If you want to be a model,
you need to be as tall as a tree
and eat like a bird.
If you want to be an actor
and a martial arts expert like Jackie Chan,
you cannot be a weed.
If you want to be successful like Bill Gates,
you need to have a mind like a computer
and be as sharp as a spear in business.
If you want to be a magician like David Copperfield,
you need to make people see that black is white and white is black.
If you want to succeed in life,
you need to be as hungry as a lion.
If you have the quality of that job, you can do it better.
