Talk about the pictures and say what the contrast is illustrating.
Step 3 Pair work
1 Go through the key words and read them.
2 Work in pairs and put the problems in order of importance, deciding what the biggest problems are in Western countries.
3 Ss exchange ideas.
Step 4 Listening
Ex2.
1 Ss read through the topics and look at the graphs.
2 Play the tape twice. Ss match the topics with the graphs. Check answers.
Ex3.
Listen twice and complete the table.
Step 5 Describing trends (Group work)
Ss take turns to say true or false statements about trends in British society.
Step 6 Language points
