SB: A nice family! Would you like to tell us when you began to learn calligraphy And how long have you prepared for this attempt
SA: I began to learn Chinese calligraphy when I was just five years old. After years of learning and practices, I could write regular script well and fast. When I heard the news that China had won the bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, I thought that I should do something meaningful. And it happened that I read a story about the Guinness later on, therefore, I came up with this idea. I have prepared for this attempt for almost half a year actually, including mental and physical preparation, as well as the arrangement and some equipment.
SB: OK. Thank you for your answers. Do have a sound sleep tonight. Again, here I want to say, congratulations!

Sample writing:
Name: Michael Jordan
Date of birth: February 17, 1963
Country: Brooklyn, New York, the USA.
Achievement:
Jordan’s exciting dunks and “hang time” saw a man staying in the air longer than any other player ever! Jordan became known as the “King of Dunks.” Jordan also added to the record books on points made without a miss. He did 23 consecutive points against the Atlanta Hawks. By the 1987-1988 seasons, Jordan had the support of two new players: Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. The 1988-1989 seasons elevated the Bulls to the Eastern Conference when they beat the New York Knicks, 115-111. Jordan and the Bulls had to face the powerhouse — the Detroit Pistons. Phil Jackson came aboard for the 1989-1990 season as the new coach of the Bulls. Again, the Bulls moved up to the Eastern Conference level only to lose to the Detroit Pistons again. The previous year of 1988-1989 also brought Michael Jordan a new contract: twenty-five million dollars over a period of eight years — the richest contract ever signed by a basketball player. Step VII Homework:
1. WRITING TASK on Page 57 in the Workbook.
2. Preview Unit 2.
Sample writing for WRITING TASK:
Yesterday a man set a new record by continuously writing down 2008 DRAGON on a large piece of paper in Chinese calligraphy. The attempt started from early morning of this Monday at five o’clock, and finished till 10 p.m. Within the 16 hours, he only had seven ten-minute breaks to drink water, have meals or use toilet, so it was really a tough challenge for a student of Senior One. Fortunately, Student A succeeded at last. As he recalled after the attempt, he began to learn Chinese calligraphy when he was just five years old. After years of learning and practicing, he could write beautiful regular script. When the news came that China had won the bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, he made a decision to do something meaningful. And it happened that he read a story about the Guinness. Therefore, a wonderful idea came into his mind... Now, the video tape has been sent to the office of Guinness World Records as a proof of his successful record breaking.
