Step Ⅰ Homework checking
T: Last period I asked you to find some proverbs and quotations that about the message which the reading part “The Road is Always Ahead of You” has delivered. Who would like to present your results
Ask some students to read theirs in class and give some comments.
Sample answer 1:
Proverbs and Quotes
1. A champion needs a motivation above and beyond winning.
2. Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.
3. Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.
4. Motivation is like food for the brain. You cannot get enough in one sitting. It needs continual and regular top up’s.
5. Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.
6. Endurance is nobler than strength and patience than beauty.
7. Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.
8. A powerful idea communicates some of its strength to him who challenges it.
9. By perseverance the snail reached the ark..
10. Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.

Sample answer 2 (Ex. 3 on Page 4):
I quite agree with his beliefs. His beliefs above can be concluded into one sentence, that is, it is necessary for anyone to have a strong will and a goal. Once the goal is set, one will pursue it willingly, no matter what are in his way. So the aim or expectation leads to success. Besides, patience, perseverance and strong will ensure the coming of success.
Sample answer 3 (Ex. 4 on Page 4):
Sport Training needed
pogo stick jumping 1. Bending knees 2. jumping and landing with bent knees
somersaulting The feet roll over the head (either forward of backward) and return.
doing lunges Start by standing and then step forward with the right foot while touching the left knee to the ground.

hula hooping As flinging the hoop to the left, bring the hip left to meet the hoop and then rotate back and to the right and forward so that the hip are following the rotation of the hoop.

Step Ⅱ Reading
This reading passage includes six headlines of the short newspaper articles, and the contents are about the different cases that have been admitted by GWR. Through the first reading, Ss just glance quickly at the articles, match the pictures on Page 54 with the articles and then write a short summary phrase for each record which has been broken.
T: Skim the articles and do Ex.2. 3. 4 on Page 55 and 56. After the students finish doing this, check the answers.
Step Ⅲ Speaking
T: When we listen to the news, no matter it is sorrow, happy, surprising or something else, there are usually some stories behind the news. Now, suppose you were the reporters, and asked to dig out more information about each of the record holders. Do Ex. 5 on page 56 in group of four.
