Welcome to the unit
Teaching Aims:
1. Introduce different kinds of paintings to the students
2. Let the students know some basic knowledge about art
3. Enlarge the students’ ability of speaking English
Teaching important point:
Some important words : mural, abstract, portrait, painting, painter, work…..
Teaching difficult point:
1. How to improve the students’ ability of speaking
2. How to teach the students some new words
Teaching methods:
1. Ask the students to talk about and discuss the art of painting
2. Ask the students to read these new words
Teaching aid:
The blackboard, Multi-media
Procedures:
Step 1: Greetings
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step 2: Revision
Review some important words and phrases in the project with the students.
Words: essential, decline, pianist, trend, mixture, discrimination, promoter, draft, regain, frontier, catalogue….
Phrases: play a role in, intend to do sth, no matter+wh, wh-ever, break up，appeal to, be based on, discriminate from A and B…….
Step 1: Lead-in
The topics we are going to deal with are related to art and painting. The art of painting has been around for many thousands of years. In prehistoric times, people painted on the walls of caves. With the development of painting skills and painting materials, people created different types of painting.
1. Do you like painting Can you name some famous artist you are familiar with
2. How many of different types of paintings do you know
Step 3: Introduction
Look at the paintings and talk about them.

What is a still life picture
What are the characteristics of a still life picture

What do you know about abstract art
Do you think it easy or difficult to understand abstract painting

Do you know any famous portrait in the world
Step 4: Practice
Match the different types of paintings with the right pictures.
Step 5: Discussion:
1. Nowadays more and more people would like to spend lots of money buying some paintings to decorate their house. Do you know the reason
