一、快捷识记
1.I am delighted to have been invited to you school to talk to you about the history and significance of the Olympic Games.我很高兴被邀请到你们学校与你们谈谈有关奥运会的历史和意义。
1) be delighted to do= be pleased to do 非常高兴做某事。
be delighted at sth. 听到……感到高兴
I am delighted to hear of your success/ at your success.我对你的成功(听到你成功的消息)感到很高兴。
2) 句中to have been invited 是不定式的完成时态,表示过去的或已完成的动作。
例如:
He is sure to have seen the film. 他肯定看过这布电影。
He is said to have been to America. 据说他去过美国。
I am sorry to have brought you so much trouble. 我很抱歉给您带来这么多麻烦。
2. compete vi. 竞争,对抗,比赛
compete against/ with each other 互相竞争
compete in sth.参赛
compete for sth. 为……而竞争
Several companies are competing against each other for the contract. 几家公司正为争取
项合同而互相竞争。
They are competing for medals. 他们在争夺奖牌。
competitor比赛者,对手 competition (n.)比赛 competitive ( adj. ) 比赛的, 竞赛的
3. Unmarried women were allowed to take part in their own competition at a separate festival in honor of the wife of the Greek god Zeus. 未婚女子在单独的比赛汇演中被允许参加她们自己的比赛项目, 以纪念希腊之神宙的妻子。
1) unmarried women 未婚女子,过去分词作定语。又如:a used stamp 一张用过的邮票
a broken cup 一只摔破的杯子 a flooded street 被洪水淹没的街道
a changed world 改变了的世界
2)in honour of 为了纪念; 出于对某人(某事)的敬意
They held a party in honour of the guests. 他们举行晚会以示对客人表示敬意。
They held a ceremony in honour of those killed in battle. 他们举行仪式以纪念阵亡将士。
honour n. 光荣,荣幸; 荣誉,名誉
It is a great honour to be invited.承蒙邀请,十分荣幸。
on my honor 我发誓,我以人格担保
fight for the honour of one’s country 为祖国的荣誉而战
vt. 表扬某人,给某人荣誉
I feel highly honoured by your trust. 我得到您的信任,感到十分荣幸。
honourable adj. 光荣的 honourable deed 光荣的事迹
4. It is / was … that/ who…强调句型。被强调的部分可以是句子的主语、宾语、表语、各种状语(从句)等。例如,分别对下列句子划线部分进行强调。
I met Tom at the party yesterday.
— It was I who/ that met Tom at the party yesterday.
— It was Tom who/that I met at the party yesterday.
— It was at the party that I met Tom yesterday.
— It was yesterday that I met Tom at the party.
5. At the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Liu Xiang excited people all over Asia when he became the first Asian to win the gold medal in the men’s 110- metre hurdles.
在2004年雅典奥运会上,当刘翔成为第一个赢得男子110米跨栏金牌的亚洲人时,他使全亚洲的人都激动不已。
excite vt. 使(人或动物)兴奋,激动,尤用于被动语态。
The children were very excited by the pantomime. 孩子们看了童话剧非常兴奋。
Don’t excite yourself. 不要激动。
excited adj. 兴奋的,激动的 ( 多指人).
The excited children forgot to take the presents to the party. 孩子们兴奋得忘记了把礼物带到聚会上了。
exciting adj. 令人激动的,令人兴奋的 (多指物)

6. These are some of the Olympians who have brought joy to people across the world with their attempts to push the limits of human achievement.
