(一)On teaching material
1. Introduction to the teaching material
This unit looks at some of the health issue facing young people in China today:smoking,HIV/AIDS,and appropriate behaviour at parties,discos,nightclubs etc where alcohol or drugs may be present.Some of these topics may challenge traditional beliefs and values of some students and parents.

2.The function of this lesson in the unit
This reading passage provides information about what HIV/AIDS is, how it is contracted and how to protect oneself from getting the disease. The text is in the form of an information poster. It is the aim of this passage to provide accurate,sensitive information to students so that they do not put themselves at risk out of ignorance and so that those who already suffer from the disease can be seen in a more sympathetic way.
3. Teaching goals
