1.Students will be able to develop their reading ability, learn to use some reading strategies such as guessing, skimming and so on;
2. Students will be able to realize the importance of having a healthy diet
3.To grasp some useful words and expressions in this passage, such as be tired of , curiosity , get away with etc.
Teaching important and difficult points:
1.Understand the text well.
2.Try to master the useful new words & expressions in this period.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Revision
What kind of food do we eat
meat
vegetable
seafood
fruit
snacks（零食小吃）
staple food (主食)
Give the names of Chinese fast food & Western food to Ss.
What substance do we get from each kind of food

Step 2 discussion
Discuss and finish the exercise: which food contains more…
Which food contains more… Examples of foods Answer
sugar chocolate or grapes
cakes or bananas
fat cream or rice
chocolate or chicken
fiber peas or nuts
pork or cabbage
protein potato crisp or ham
eggs or cream
Step 3 lead in
Show a pyramid of food to the Ss.
T : As we know, a healthy diet is very important to us. If we don’t have the right diet in our daily life, there will be something wrong with us sooner or later. Now , let’s read a story related to the diet .

1.Reading strategies : Read fast to prove your guess
Get the Ss to read the whole story fast to prove whether their guesses are right.
Then ask the following questions to finish the table :

2.Give the Ss 2 minutes to summarize the main idea of the story with the help of the above table, using 2 or 3 sentences.

Step 5 careful reading
Divide the whole passage into three parts, and give the general idea of each part.
Part 1 Wang Peng felt frustrated because he found his customers had come to other places to eat
Part 2 Wang Peng found the reason why YongHui’s restaurant was more attractive
Part 3 Wang Peng thought out a good idea to have a competition with YongHui’s restaurant
T : The story is mainly about two persons, that is, Wang Peng and Yong Hui .
Q : Who is the main character in the story ( Wang Peng ) Now let’s read the story again to get more about him.
1.Get the Ss to read the story carefully to make a list of places where he stayed & went and his feelings in these places.
2. Ask some questions to help the Ss have a better understanding of the story.

Step 6 post reading
T: Now, it’s the time for us to read the text carefully and decide which sentences are true. Then correct the false ones. First read the sentences.
1. Usually Wang Peng’s restaurant was full of people.

4. Yong Hui could make people thin in two weeks by giving them a good diet.

1.Get the Ss to discuss in pairs :
Who will win the competition at last Give your reasons.
( Neither will, because neither of them provide their customers with a healthy diet. Foods in Wang Peng’s makes people fat while foods in Yong Hui’s makes people tired easily.)
2.Please think of a way to help them put an end to their competition. ( cooperation )
3.Work in groups of four to design a sign for the cooperatedly-opened restaurant.
Step 8 summary
