Make fun of用于被动语态时保留of的用法以及常用短语。
5. used to句型是高考的常考点,经常集中在对其否定、疑问形式以及used to 与结构类似句型be/become used/accustomed to(doing)be used to do sth.

【基础过关】(1)不定式作表语与“be + to do sth.”
His job is to guard.(说明内容)
be + to do sth.(表示按计划要做的事)
下列词语常不定式作宾语:afford、promise、refuse、expect、hope、learn、offer、wish、want、fail、plan、agree、forget、like、prefer、decide、manage、try、arrange、determine、desire等
下列动词后可接疑问词+不定式:teach、decide、wonder、show、learn、forget、ask、find、out、advise、discuss等
①动词see、watch、notice、hear、listen to、observe、feel、taste、smell、make、let、have等的宾补用动词原形,变被动时要加to,此时的不定式就是主语补足语
主语 + ask / require / tell / order / force / get / want / like + sb.to do sth.
③主语 + think / judge / suppose / believe / consider /imagine/
consider / feel + sb. + to be/ to have done
④主语 + call on / upon / depend on / wait for / ask for + sb.+ to do sth.
①下列词语后常接不定式作定语:chance、wish、right、courage、need、promise、time、opportunity、way、the first、the second、the last、the only等
There is no one to look after her.
She is now looking for a room to live in.
only to do表示出人意料的结果
We hurried to the classroom only to find none there .
in order(not)to,so as(not)to用来引导目的状语,enough, too, so… as to do, such + 名词… as to do作结果状语,如:The girl was so kind as to help the old man off the bus.
I’m not such a fool as to believe that.
The novel was said to have been published.
I regret to have been with you for so many years.
seem、appear、be said、be supposed、be believed、be thought、be known、be reported等动词常用于上面句型
I’m sorry to keep you waiting for a minute.
I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.
(A)should like to / would like to / would love to + 不定式的完成时。
I want to finish my homework and go home.
I’m really puzzled what to think or say.
特例:To be or not to be, this is a question.
He is better to laugh than to cry.(表示对比)
What he did was lose the game.
③句中含有动词do时,but、except、besides、such as等后面to可省略。即“前有do,后省to”
Don’t do anything silly, such as marry him.
④主句含有不定式,后面有rather than, rather than后省to。
⑤Why not、had better、would rather、can’t but等词后省to。如:
He could not but walk home.
Susan is not what she used to be.
—You came late last night. You ought to have finished your
homework.
—I know I ought to have.
I’d like / love / be happy to.
begin, start, continue, like, love, dislike, hate, prefer, can’t stand

Do you forget to turn off the lights and heaters when you go out of a room In 2040 it will not matter. They will turn themselves off and on again when you return. You will choose the temperature for each room, the lighting and the humidity (湿度). A sensor will detect the presence of a human (and, with luck, ignore the dog!)and turn the systems n, and when the humans leave it will turn them off again.
The sensors will work through the central home computer, and they will do much more than just turn the fires and lights on and off for you. They will detect faulty electrical appliances (电器), plugs or switches, isolate (使绝缘) them so that they cannot harm anyone, and then warn you that they need repair. They will detect fire and if you are out of the house, the computer will call the fire brigade. It will also call the police if the sensors detect an intruder (入侵者). This will not be too difficult because the locks on the outside doors will be electronic. You will open them using your personal card —the one you use for shopping —may be using a number known only to you.
It will be impossible to lose the key, and a house—breaker will have to tamper (拨弄) with the lock or with a window. It is now very difficult to make such tampering send a signal to the computer.
The computer will be an entertainer, and most of your entertainment will come right into your home. It does now, of course, but by 2040 “entertainment” will mean much more. For one thing, you will be able to take part actively, rather than just watching.

James Cleveland Owens was the son of a farmer and the grandson of black slaves. His families moved to Cleveland when he was 9. There a schoolteacher asked the youth his name.
“J.C.” he replied. She thought he had said “Jesse”, and he had a new name.
Owens ran his first race at the age of 13. After high school, he went to Ohio State University. He had to work part time so as to pay for his education. As a second-year student, in the Big Ten games in 1935, he set even more records than he would in the Olympic Games a year later.
A week before the Big Ten meet, Owens accidentally fell down a flight of stairs. His back hurt so much that he could not exercise all week, and he had to be helped in and out of the car that drove him to the meet. He refused to listen to the suggestions that he give up and said he would try, event by event. He did try, and the results are in the record book.
The stage was set for Owens’ victory at the Olympic Games in Berlin the next year, and his success would come to be regarded as not only athletic (运动的) but also political. Hitler did not congratulate any of the African—American winners.
“It was all right with me,” he said years later. “I didn’t go to Berlin to shake hands with him, anyway.”
Having returned from Berlin, he received no telephone call from the President of his own country, either. In fact, he was not honored by the United States until 1976, four years before his death.
Owens’ Olympic victories made little difference to him. He earned his living by looking after a school playground and accepted money to race against cars, trucks, motorcycles, and dogs.
“Sure, it bothered me,” he said later. But at least it was an honest living. I had to eat.”
In time, however, his gold medals changed his life. “They have kept me alive over the years,” he once said. “Time has stood still for me. That golden moment dies hard.”

Today, when a man steps on to the moon, or something new and important happens the world learns about it immediately. What did the newspapers say about that first flight in 1903 Strangely enough, they said hardly anything about it at all. There were only a few reports about it in the papers. These reports said very little. Some of the things they said were not even correct.
In 1904 the Wrights built a second machine. They called it “Flyer No. Two”. They invited some reporters to a field near Dayton to watch them fly. Unfortunately, there were some mechanical (机械的)trouble with the plane and it did not fly at all that day. The newspapermen went away. They were disappointed and did not come back. The Wrights went on with their work. In 1905, they built an even better machine, “Flyer No. Three”. They were able to stay upon the air for half an hour and more in the machine. Farmers and travelers on the road around the Dayton often saw tem flying, but when three people told newspapermen about it, they refused to believe them.
The Wrights offered “Flyer No. Three” to the United States government. The govern-ment was not interested. They seemed to think the Wrights wanted money in order to build a place. They did not understand the Wrights had already done this, and flown it well. Experts were still saying that mechanical flight was impossible. The famous Saint Bernard dogs have saved many travellers lost in storms on the Alps. The dog's home is a travelers' shelter(避难所) kept by Augustinian monks(修道士). It stands at the highest point of the Great Saint Bernard Pass. For hundreds of years the pass has been used for travel between Switzerland and Italy. The journey was often dangerous.

The hospital burn unit is a popular place on the day after Thanksgiving. I found that out three years ago, when my 18-month-old daughter touched a radiator pipe while playing around our friends' farmhouse. Instead of feasting on leftover stuffing, I rushed my child as she screamed to hospital. Instead of getting a jump on my Christmas shopping, I learned how to take care of second-degree burns.
Our story had a happy ending. With weeks of twice-daily treatments at Mommy and Papa's kitchen-table burn clinic, my daughter's hands healed. But other children we saw at the outpatient burn clinic weren't so lucky. I saw hands _____________________, a mouth that would never smile straight, a scalp that would never grow hair. All the parents had stories of accidents as easy as ours: a cup of tea knocked from a side table, a tumble (摔倒) into a space heater. "Heaters and soup," one veteran nurse told me at the hospital. "That's all it is. Heaters and soup."
Most of the injuries were to hands and wrists, and most came from contact with hot liquids or from touching hot objects. Not only do small children not realize the danger posed by hot objects; their skin is much thinner than that of adults. They burn more quickly, and the burns tend to be deeper and more severe.
Traditional fire safety education focused on preventing fires. The number of children injured by playing with fire has declined substantially when the Consumer Product Safety Commission required that cigarette lighters be child-resistant. "We know people know about smoke alarms," says Chrissy, program manager for Safe Kids USA, a nonprofit that works to reduce childhood injuries. Now, fire safety experts hope that public education efforts will turn to burns that can be just as terrible as injuries caused by flame.
76. Which sentence in the passage is the closest in meaning to the following one People used to be warned of the fire burns.
77. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 3 with a proper sentence.(within 10 words)
78. What is the best title for this passage (within 10 words)

As can be seen from the chart, great changes have been taking place in the ownership of mobile phones in china. At the end of 2002, there were 25 million mobile users, but two years later, the number has reached up to 35 million.
People have found mobile phones very convenient. They can get in touch with each other whenever they like and wherever they are. There are many different functions for different needs, such as sending short messages and surfing the Internet. However, it may also bring us more trouble. For example, you will have to pay for a wrong dialing, and the radiation from the phone may do harm to our health. In spite of this, the number of people having mobile phones is still increasing greatly.
