Teaching procedures
1. Explain that when we ask for reasons, we use “why”. When we give reasons, we can use “because”.
2. Tell students to turn to the reading passage on page 60. Ask them to underline the sentences that contain the word “because”, ask “why did Ricky help with the charity show ”(Because he wanted to raise money for Project Green Hope.), and other questions.
3. Ask students to read out one example from the grammar table at the top of P64.
4. Questions about the charity show.
Grammar B
Sum up: Because +clause(reason)
1. Tell them that we can also use “because of” to give a reason for something. When we use “because of”, it is followed by a noun , a pronoun or a noun phrase.
2. Tell them to read the words above the speech bubbles in Part B1. Tell them that the first part says what happened, and the second part is the reason. Ask them to write sentences using “because of”.
3. Ask students to read out their answers to Nos2---4 and put them into Chinese.
4. Explain the context of Part B2. They are looking at pictures of a flood. Tell them that Amy is answering Shirley’s questions about it. Ensure all the students know the meaning of “flood”.
5. Answer the questions using “because” or “because of”.
6. Select two students to play the roles of Shirley and Amy, ask and answer in pairs.
Sum up: because of + a noun, a pronoun or a noun phrase(reason)
Grammar C
1. Tell the students that we can use “so” to introduce a result. Read out the two examples and explain the first part is a fact, and the second part is a result of the fact.
2. Give the information in the example sentences using “because”.
3. Ask the students to rearrange the words in Part C1 to make sentences. Remind them that the first part of the sentence should be a fact and the second part should be a result. Make sure they understand the two parts and the relations between them.
4. Once students have finished, ask them to read out the sentences and put them into Chinese.
5. Ask students to read through Kitty’s letter in Part C2 for overall meaning first. Then ask them to fill in the blanks using “because”, “because of” or “so”. They can work in pairs.
Grammar D
1 Tell Ss that we use ‘hope’ and ‘wish’ to talk about things or situations that we want to happen.
1)To hope is to want something to happen and think that it is possible. We usually use ‘hope’ to talk about the present or the future.
2)To wish is to want what is not happening or what did not happen. We usually use ‘wish’ to talk about the past or the present.
1. Explain the context of the exercise. The students are having a meeting to talk about their charity show. However, everyone is talking or thinking about different things.
2. Ask Ss to complete the exercise using the correct forms of ‘hope’ and ‘wish’.
3. Ask volunteers to read out their answers. Tell Ss to check their own work.

备课后记: Grammar A B 内容较简单, 容易掌握. 对学生来说, 一定要先把句子看懂, 弄清楚两句子间的关系, 再确定用哪个连词.Grammar C D 按照书本内容讲解, 较容易理解, 书中相关练习较少, 需增加练习. 尤其要注意wish的用法.

To pronounce contracted forms correctly
Teaching Procedures:
Part A: Remind students of different levels of formality when using contractions or long forms. Explain that we usually use contracted forms both in spoken English and in informal types of writing.
1. List the changing forms of “be”(, “do”, “have”, “will”, etc.)
with different pronouns and read them.

2. Try to read them again when two words are linked together.
3. Listen to the tape and try to read after the tape, paying attention to the pronunciation

5. Play the recording for Part B and tell students to read out one sentence each.

Part A: Organizing a charity show
1. Make students think what is needed to write on a poster about holding a show.
2. Explain the context, ask students to read the poster and answer the questions:
① What is the name of the show (Sunshine For All)
② When will they hold the show (29th April, from 730-930 p.m.)
③ Why are they holding a charity show (To raise money to help poor children go to school)
④ Where will the show be held (At Beijing Sunshine Secondary School)
⑤ Who organized the show (The Beijing Sunshine Secondary School students)
⑥ How much do the tickets cost (¥20)
⑦ Which charity are they supporting (Project Hope)
⑧ What’s the function of Project Hope
3. Talk about what makes a poster more effective and how to make people notice a poster and become interested in the event.(bright colors, interesting illustrations, relevant information, attractive fonts, etc)
4. Encourage students to make comments about the poster and how they could improve it using different fonts, titles and subtitles, pictures and illustrations, etc.
5. Divide the class into pairs. Ask students to design their own posters based on the model. Choose a charity and plan a programme of events. Pay attention to the following items:
Information should be included:
* name of the show * purpose
* place * price
* data * programme(event/activity)
* time *which charity you are raising money
for and why
6. If students need help with ideas, suggest the following:

7. After completing the poster, look at the one on P71 and replace the underlined words with your own words. Display them in class.
Part B: writing a speech
8. Tell students to work alone to complete the speech, using information from the poster on p71. without referring to it.
9. Read the speech out to the class. Pause at the blanks and ask students to call out the missing words.
10. Ask students to work in pairs to write a speech in part B1 as a model. They should refer to the poster they designed.

1. Tell students that in Part A, they will have to use “because, because of , so, hope and wish” to complete the letter.
2. Explain the context that Sandy is writing a letter to her friend about the Beijing Sunshine Secondary School charity show.
3. Read out the letter and pause at the blanks for students to complete.
Part B: Tell students that Part B is a page form Kitty’s diary. She went to the theatre with her parents to see a show and now she is writing about it.

本单元主题为慈善义演这活动,学生通过看演出、电视、新闻报道等多少有些了解。可以通过这样一些内容导入新课学生容易接受。备课时,感到在语法教学中, hope这一单词的用法出错率会较高,主要表现在hope sb to do sth 方面;另wish的基本用法学生掌握可能不很到位。原因和结果状语从句是本单元的另一重点,需提醒学生不要把because和so同时出现在句子中。
