6. give up 放弃（L34）
He has given up smoking. 他不再吸烟了。
辨析：give up 与give in
相同点: 都有“放弃；让步”的意思；形式上都作不及物动词
He gave up/in at last.他终于投降了。
不同点
give up “放弃” give in “屈服”
在形式上give up可做及物动词，后接名词或动名词，
而 give in是不及物动词，后不接宾语
She will give up this journey. 她将放弃这次旅行。

7. come up with=find out 意思是“找到，提出（答案、解决办法等）”（L35）
One day the librarian came up with an idea. 有一天图书管理员想出了一个办法。

8. devote oneself to 献身于；致力于 “to”为介词，后接名词或动名词 （L35）
Bethune devoted his life to caring for the sick. 白求恩专心照顾他的病人。
Yuan Longping devoted himself to his work. 袁隆平全身心投入到工作中。
devoted adj.献身的，专心于……

because +从句 （L35）
She was absent because of sickness. 她由于生病而缺席。
I didn’t catch the early bus because I got up late this morning.

care about关心，在乎; 常用于疑问句和否定句：
He doesn’t care about anything we may say. 我们说什么他也不在乎。
I don’t care about your opinion. 我不在乎你的意见。
care for
喜欢；常用于疑问句、否定句；照顾= take care of = look after
I don’t really care for tea. 我其实不大喜欢喝茶。
The mother cared for the sick child day and night. 母亲日夜照顾生病的孩子。

12. day after day adv. 日复一日（=day by day） （L36）
after adv.一个接一个，持续不断的紧挨着
year after year 年复一年

14. talk about 谈论，议论，讨论，后面跟谈论的具体内容（L36）
talk with表示“与……交谈”，后面跟谈话对象，用作宾语。
talk with双方交谈，talk to ，强调一方对另一方说
