Step 1 Revision
Revise the simple present tense.
Step 2 Presentation
Write “October 1st ’’ on the blackboard .
Ask : Is this day special Yes, it is the birthday of People’s Republic of China .Teach “birthday”
Ask : What do you usually get for your birthday Help the students to answer it .
Maybe you can get some birthday cards from your friends and write “card ” on the blackboard .
Maybe you can get some chocolates from your parents.
Maybe you can get some toys from your grandparents.
Write “toy” on the blackboard.
Step 3 Practice.

Let the students to act the dialogue.
Step 4 Speaking
Point to the pictures on page 62 . Discuss the pictures .

Would Millie like to get a CD for her birthday
Step 6 Homework
Please make a list of your birthday presents. You can also bring your favourite one to the class and talk about it with your classmates.

Teaching steps
Step 1 Revision
Invite some students to read their presents list and then ask them to talk about their favourite present.
Step 2 Presentation
Ask: Millie is going to have a birthday party. There are many kinds of food in the party. What would you like to eat
Help the students to say their favourite food.
(Take out the pictures and things)
Ask: would you like some bananas/sweets/ice cream/orange juice/cakes
Write the new words on the blackboard and read them.
Step 3 Listening
(1) Talk about the two pictures in Part B with the students---Who is in the picture What are they talking about
Introduce the situation of the dialogue: Millie and her mum are talking about what to buy for Millie’s birthday party. Listen to their conversation and try to complete their shopping list.
(2) Play the recording twice and ask the students to complete the shopping list.
Please listen to the recording carefully and complete the shopping list.
Then invite some students to read their answers.
Play the recording again, check the answers and do some explanations
Step 4 Practice
Please tell us about Millie and her mother’s shopping list in your own words.
Step 5 Homework
Would you please write your own shopping list for your next birthday party according to Millie’s.

Teaching steps
Step 1 Revision
Ask some students to talk about their shopping plan. Then take a few minutes to tell their neighbours about their shopping list.
Step 2 Presentation
Ask: Millie ask me to join her party. I want to buy a present for her, but I’m not sure what she likes. Would you like to give me some ideas
Explain: here “ buy a present for her= buy her a present”
Help the students to use these sentences to give suggestions: what about--- Would you like to buy---
Give the students the praises: what a good idea! I think --- is a good present for her.
Step 3 Dialogue
(1) Say: Ok, I’ll buy Millie a --- but what will her friends buy for her Let’s listen to their dialogue and try to find out what will they will buy.
Play the recording and ask the students to answer the questions.
(2) Play the recording again and ask the students to read after the recording.
Answer the questions: where can they buy the presents When will they go shopping
(3) Ask the students to read the dialogue together, then play roles in the dialogue and act out the dialogue.
Step 4 Discussion
Discuss with your neighbours about what present you want to buy for Millie’s birthday.
Step 5 Homework
Ask the students to imagine Millie’s birthday party and draw a picture. At last, write the food, people and presents on the picture in English.

Step 1 Revision
Ask the students to show their drawings, then ask some students to describe their pictures.
Discuss these pictures and introduce the new words.
Look, this is a wonderful picture. There are lots of things in it, such as ---
Look at this one. I think it is very interesting. The boy looks so cool---
I am pleased to see your wonderful pictures. I feel very excited.
Write the new words on the blackboard: wonderful, such as, interesting, cool, pleased, feel and excited. Read the new words together with the students ,at the same time ask the students to give the Chinese meaning of these words.
Step 2 Presentation
(1) Let the students look at the pictures in the book and communicate with the students.
T: Let’s look at the pictures for Millie’s birthday party.
What can you see on the table in Picture 1
S: I can see CDs, hair clips---
T: How dose Millie look
S: she looks excited/ pleased.
T: Let’s look at Picture 2. What’s this It’s a sofa. Where are the girls
S: They are in the sofa.
T: And where are the boys (Pointing at the picture and teach the new word: balcony)
S: They are on the balcony.
Write the new words: sofa, balcony on the blackboard and read them. Then go on communicating with the students:
Let’s look at Picture 3. What birthday present dose Millie get from her friends Millie’s friends have CDs, hair clips, a teddy bear--- for her.
Let’s look at Picture 4. What is Millie going to do She is going to make a wish and cut the cake. Using body languages to help the students understand the meaning of “make a wish” and “cut the cake”. At the same time, write the two phrases on the blackboard. Then read them together with the students.
(2) Read all the new words and help the students to understand the meanings of them.
Step 3 Reading
Play the recording, let the students open the book, after listening to the recording, ask the students to match the pictures and the sentences. Then ask the students to read the text after the recording and reorder the pictures. Let the students read the text again and discuss the questions in Part B, then check the answers with the students. At last, arrange the students to read the text.
Step 4 Practice
Write the proper words and phrases under every picture and give them to one group of the students, four students in a group, let them describe the picture according to the giving words and phrases. The words maybe are:
Picture 1: wear, cool, such as, excited, wonderful---
Picture 2: sofa, balcony, have fun, interesting---
Picture 3: hair cut, chocolate, presents, pleased---
Picture 4: make a wish, cut the cake, taste, delicious---
Ask each group to describe their pictures.
Step 5 Homework
1, copy the new words and the text.
2, describe the four pictures in your books in you own words.

(2) Read the new words.
Step 3 Dialogue
(1) Write “8 April” on the blackboard, say: It’s Lily’s birthday, can you tell me the date in English (Write “ the eighth of April” on the blackboard) Then communicate with the students:
T: How dose Lily celebrate her birthday Can you guess
S: I think she has a party or a big dinner.
T: Maybe. Where does she have the party or the dinner.
S: At home or at restaurant.
T: Who will come to her birthday party
S: Her friends.
T: What presents can she get
S: Many interesting things, such as books, hair clips---
T: Ok, here is a dialogue about lily’s birthday between Millie and Lily, try to fill in the blanks and complete their conversation.
Let the students read the text and complete the dialogue and check the answers. Let the students read the text again, then ask them to answer the questions on Lily’s birthday.
(2) Read the text together.
Step 4 Practice
Please write a report on lily’s birthday according to the information in the dialogue. Then ask some students to give their reports.
Step 5 Homework
Please ask one of your friends how he/she spent his/her birthday. Write down the dialogue between you and your friend.
