Teaching aims:
1. To familiarize the students with address.
2. To improve students’ language abilities.
3. To improve students’ abilities of answering questions.
Language focus:
a) Using prepositions to indicate position.
b) Asking ‘wh—’ questions to find out specific information about a person.
c) Using “How” question to find out the quantity.
d) Using the prepositions/prepositional phrases to indicate place and position.
e) Using the simple present tense to express simple truth.
Teaching aids: a cassette, a recorder, some pictures
Teaching procedure:
1. Warming-up (Q&A)
Q1: Where is the garden
Q2: Where does Alice live
Q3: Who lives in the tallest block
2. Pre-task preparation:
a) To teach the new words and expressions.
b) To practise reading the numbers.
c) To ask the students some questions to find out something about their living environment.
T: Do you live in a housing estate
What’s its name
How many blocks in your housing estate
How many floors does your block have
Which floor do you live on
Is there a supermarket/a school/a post office/ a garden/ a kindergarten near your
housing estate
e) To play the recording:
Students read the passage silently
Then ask questions about it.
T: Where do Ben and Kitty live
How many floors does their block have
Which floor do they live on
f) To ask some more able students to the front of the class and to look at the slides and say something about the pictures.
g) Students read the sentences in Answer True/False and fill in the boxes.
3. While-task procedure:
a) Teach the students how to read the number “0” and the double numbers in different ways
b) Talk about their addresses and telephone numbers on the cards
c) Make dialogues and then design a cover
4. Post-task procedure:
a) A dictation (number)
b) Make an interview (address, a cover)
c) Write, ask and answer
