Teaching objectives:
1. Knowledge:
(1)Let the students memorize the important words and expressions in the text.
(2)Let the students get the outline and the main idea of the text.
2. Skills: Let the student grasp two reading skills---skimming and scanning.
3. Feelings and attitudes:
(1) Let the students understand something about the fact that the black
fight for white people.
(2)Let the students know some qualities about hero.
4. Cultural awareness:
Let the students be aware of that the problems of discrimination in American society. In fact, there are also some discrimination phenomena in our society, we should also hold a correct attitude towards the discrimination.
5. Learning strategies:
(1) Cognitive learning---listen to the teacher’s analysis of the text
(2) Self management--- express their own opinion on the subject.
(3) Communication--- group discussion of the some topic.
Key points:
(1).Learning to write the outline of the text
(2).Using skimming to find the main idea and use the scanning to find the detailed information in the limited period of time.
(3).Attain the cultural awareness..
(4).By the end of the class, students can remember the important words and expressions in the text.

(1). Further discussion about the topic.
(2). Present the information about Nelson Mandela to your peer in the class.
