Teaching procedures:Step 1: Greetings and introduction:Good morning, boys and girls. Very pleased to meet all of you.Last week I can see all of you really had a hard time in the playground under the blazing sun for the military training.Now we are back in the classroom,so we should put our hearts into studies. This is our first English class in Sanpu Secondary School.All of you are welcome to study here.I am your English teacher.My family name is XX.I hope you can make progress every day and study English better and better.And I believe that all of you can do that if you acquire good study habits and learn diligently.Step 2.Leading –in:the importance of learning English Why shall we learn English,even earlier from the third grade in the primary school Discussion for a while and then give the answers by some of the Ss,maybe including the following:English is the most widely used language in the world,in which theUSA,theUK,Canada,Australia,NewZealand,India,Pakistan,South Africa ,Middle East,etc, use it as the first language or the official language,and all together nearly 70 countries use it as the second language.The need for the reform and opening-up policy of our country at present and in the future.The need of globalization and the export-oriented economy.For the senior high school entrance examination,in which 120 marks for English,so it is so important for us to be enrolled in a key senior high school.For studying, working or traveling overseas.For making more money from foreigners,both at home and abroad. And so on.Step 3.Discussion: To discuss how to study English well by all of the Ss,in groups of four.The answers maybe the following:Listen to the teacher in class carefully.Speak English as much as possible,don’t be afraid to make mistakes.Read English aloud as much and often as you can.Make notes while listening to the teacher.Memorize the new words and expressions as quickly as possible.Learn the key sentences,esp. the sentence patterns,language points in the key sentences by heart.Finish off all of the assignment on time.Ask questions from the teacher whenever you have.Listen to the English tape recording as often as possible both at school and at home. And so on and on….Give the example of Li Yang,the founder of Crazy English,who was a poor student as a first grader in college and didn’t pass the English tests. The three “mosts”:loudest,quickest,clearest.Step 4.Warm-up and PresentationLet Ss recall the greetings which they learned in the primary school by doing some common and easy greetings with students, leading to the subject of this unit. Step 5. Welcome to this unit1. Ask students to read the four dialogues of this part for twice, and get ready for the following questions to check if the students understand the meaning of the dialogues:(Make sure they remember the pictures.)Who is Andy Who is Millie Who is Lily Who is Nick Who is Miss Fang When they meet,what do they say When they meet in the morning, what do they say When they part, what do they say 2. Teach students some similar words and sentences on the four dialogues, and at the same time ask them to replace all of the names in the dialogues with the thoses of their classmates. Therefore, students can make another four dialogues of their own and of different patterns but of the same meaning.For example, Hi= Hello, Good morning= Good morning to you, Good bye= Bye-bye, Bye, See you, see you around, see you later,so long.3. Pair work and a show timeStep 6. Listening1. Pre- listening. There is a clock on the wall in Picture 1 of Part A, so ask Ss for the correct time. After that the teacher guides the students to observe the times of the other three dialogues in this part and teaches the different ways of greeting. 2. Ask students to do the listening exercises on the tape and tick the correct answer.3. Do some post-listening work. Guide students to replace all of the names in the dialogues with the names of their classmates and use some similar words and similar sentences to make another dialogue of their own, so that Ss can know the different ways of greeting.For example, Good afternoon= Good afternoon to you, How are you = How are you doing, I’m fine= I’m OK, OK, Fine, Good, Great, hi= hello, And you= What about you, Thank you= ThanksStep 7. Step 1 Warm-upListen to or sing a song T: Now let’s listen to an English song “good morning”. If you can ,please sing it with the tape.Ss: (listening to the song)T: Do you like this song Ss: Yes.T: If you want to sing in English, you should learn English carefully from now on. I think all of you can .2.Revision free talkAfter listening and singing, let’s make dialogues to revise what we have learnt yesterday,using “Good morning,XX.How are you today Fine,thank you.And you I’m fine,too.”Or some other similar expressions.T: Good morning! Their names are Jim Green, Joe Smith and Helen Brown. Do you know how we can greet them For example: you can say “ Mr Green”, “ Miss Smith ” and “ Mrs Brown” .
