PROCEDURES:
Practice 1
Getting ready
Point and talk about the pictures in each number.
T: can I borrow your eraser (point to the eraser under number 2.)[Ss: sure. Here you are./ Yes, you can.]
Continue with the other sentences.
Using the book
T: let’s listen to the tape.
Play the tape for number 1, then pause.
T: was it “sure. Here you are.” Or “no, sorry” (point to the two sentences under number 1.)[Ss: Sure. Here you are.]
T: circle it (Circle the picture and sentence with your finger.)
Continue with the rest, pausing after each number and letting Ss repeat sentence.

Practice 2
Getting ready
T: what’s this (point to the picture of the book in number 1.)[Ss: it’s a book.]
Continue with your book On the board. Circle use.
Write can I use your book On the board. Circle use.
T: can I use your book Repeat. [Ss: can I use your book ]
Take a book from a student and pretend to read it .
Write the other sentences on the board, circle the new vocabulary and have Ss repeat the sentences.
Using the book
T: now, read the questions.
Have the class say the sentences.
Put Ss in small groups and have them use a book, pen, ruler and an eraser to practice asking and answering the questions.

Song
Getting ready
Have Ss cover the lyrics with their hands and look at the pictures around the lyrics.
T: what do you think the song will say (Point to the pictures.)[Ss: can use pen Can I borrow a pen , etc.]
Accept all Ss’ guesses and then ask them to uncover the lyrics.
Using the book
T: let’s sing a song! Let’s listen first.
Play the tape and point to each word as it is sung.
Divide Ss into two groups.
One group sings the questions and the other group
Sings the responses.

Activity 1
Getting ready
Have Ss look at the pictures.
T: listen. “borrow a stapler.”
Move your hand over the six pictures and slowly lower it to the picture of the girl borrowing a stapler from her teacher.
Dictate other phrases to Ss and have them find the picture, e.g. listen to a song. Call my mother. Etc.
Using the book
T: draw lines to match the pictures and the phrases.
Point to the picture of the girl borrowing the stapler and trace the line to the phrase borrow a stapler.
Have Ss do in the class, checking for accuracy.
Have Ss get into pairs to check one another’s work.
