Unit Three Can I have a balloon
TEACHING AIMS: students can ask for permission, responding to requests for permission
TEACHING KEY: to help students to comprehend Conversation and vocabulary
TEACHING AIDS: pictures, tape and some transparencies
TEACHING PERIOD: the third period
PROCEDURES:
Activity 2
Getting ready
Put picture cards 17-24 on the board.
Have two Ss come up to the board.
Give s1 a coin and tell him/her to flip the coin.
If the coin comes up heads, s1 moves two spaces and if it comes up tails, he/she moves only one space.
Move a magnet (as a token ) to the appropriate card and have s2 ask s1 a question based on the picture card. e.g. yes, you can .
Have Ss take turns playing.
Using the book
T: open your books. Look at this game board.
Put Ss in pairs to play.
Give Ss coins and paper tokens to use.
Circulate while Ss are playing and provide help if necessary.

Sounds and words
1 Getting ready
T: let’s practice the sound/u:/. Look at my mouth and repeat.
Show your mouth and model how your lips are closed and rounded as for whistling.
T: /u:/,[Ss:/u:/.]
Using the book
Have Ss look at the work on the page.
Make the sound /u:/,pointing to spelling combinations (oo, ui, ou, ue.)
T: let’s listen to the tape.
Play the tape and have Ss point to each word each word as the tape says it .
After enough practice, point to the pictures randomly and have Ss say the words.
2 Getting ready
Have Ss look at the pictures next to the lyrics.
T: what’s this (point to the bowl of soup.)[Ss: it’s soup.]
T: what’s this (point to the spoon.)[Ss: it’s a spoon.]
T: do you like soup (point to the soup.)[Ss: yes, I do./no, I don’t]
Continue questioning several other Ss.
