第二节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)
Years ago I gave a speech called “Powerful Phrases for Positive People.” These are very 21 but powerful phrases that we all like to 22 : “I’m proud of you.” “I believe 23 you.” “I trust you.” “I love you.” “You can do it.”
24 Thanksgiving Day approaching, we 25 all be focused(集中)on another one of these powerful phrases, in 26 : “I thank you.” We can never 27 out that phrase. It should always be 28 the tip of our 29 if we are truly grateful to others who help us each day and to 30 who has richly blessed us with more wealth and freedom than any other countries in history.
Despite all of God’s abundant blessings, we’re often too 31 to give thanks and too quick to complain. Maybe we’re so focused on ourselves and 32 with our lives that we forget to give thanks. Or maybe it’s because those of us in America have gotten used to our level of wealth and leisure which is beyond even the imagination of much of the world’s population.
We tend to 33 our blessings for granted, like the story about a homeowner who 34 a real-estate agent to prepare an ad to 35 his home. The homeowner 36 the ad in the paper about his home’s many 37 features. He called the real-estate agent to say he no longer wished to sell the house. When 38 what changed his mind, the homeowner said, “After reading your ad, I 39 that I already live in the house I have 40 wanted to live in.”
In this season of Thanksgiving in particular, it’s time to count our blessings and use that simple phrase, “I thank you.”

Taking a swamp(沼泽地) tour in the U.S. is a different experience from a trip in any other country. We discovered alligators(鳄鱼) on a swamp tour in New Orleans. The swamp looked like it was from a film. It felt like we were in a jungle, an area that was covered with a thick growth of trees and all kinds of plants. I felt mystery there, but it was peaceful, wild and silent.
The captain introduced everything around the swamp and pointed out where alligators were. We were luckier than others because we discovered ten alligators. They looked like old trees. Their skin color was a deep green, and they were very still, like dead trees.
The captain caught a smaller alligator. The baby alligator looked like a toy. When I touched it, its skin felt like piece of rough paper and cold ice. I could hear its voice while everyone touched it. Although the baby alligator was young, it was still sensitive. Every time people took a picture with it, it got very excited. When it opened its eyes, they were as bright as stars. It seemed smarter than old alligators.
Taking a swamp tour was exciting and novel. It was the most interesting thing I've ever seen. I think this was a great tour for my first American adventure.

You can send her mail, too.

Wiring schools in California can cost a lot of money. It needs to be done by volunteers or schools will not be able to afford it. They think that it will cost as much as fifty billion dollars.
