Topic: Physical appearance
Target language: What does he look like?
He’s tall.
He’s short and he has straight hair.
Function: Describe people’s appearance.
New words: short hair, curly hair, long hair, straight hair,
medium height, thin, heavy, a medium build.
Teaching procedures:
I. Students’ daily report.
II. Leading--in. Describe a student’s hair and build.

III. Task One: Word game Bingo
1. Learn the new words: short hair, long hair, curly hair,
straight hair, medium height, a medium build, thin, heavy.
2. Match the words with the pictures. You can use some words more than once. Say BINGO when you find the word.

IV. Task Two: Making persons.
1. Listen and complete this conversation:
A: Is that your friend? B: No, it isn’t.
A: What does he look like?
B: Well, he’s really tall. And he has curly hair.
2. Pair work. Ask students to practice the conversation
above in pairs. Then ask some pairs to act it out.
3. A match of groups. Two students read the conversations given by the teacher. At the same time, every group ask two students to make persons with the paper models. See which group can finish the work correctly.

V. Task Three: Making a survey !
1. Play the tape once. Finish doing Activity 2a.
Sum up the using of is & has.
2. Play the tape a second time. Finish doing Activity 2b.
3. Work in groups. Ask the members in your group, Who is
your favorite star? and What does he / she look like?
Fill in the chart below. Then make a report to the class.
VI. Task Four: Reading test: Find out the thief!
1. Finish doing Activity 3.
2. Imagine you are a police officer. There’re some wanted
(被通缉)people in the boxes. Read them and find the
thieves in the pictures.

Imagine we are going to have a party. I hope you all have new images. Let’s see whose new image is the most wonderful. Please describe your new image and draw it!

Task Two: Play a game: Making persons.
A match of groups. Two students read the conversations given by the teacher. At the same time, every group ask two students to make persons with the paper models. See which group can finish the work correctly.
Task Tree: Making a survey !
Work in groups. There’re some pictures of stars on the blackboard. Ask the members in your group, Who is your favorite star? and What does he /she look like?
