“No man is an island” is a well-known line from John Donne’s Devotion, written more than three hundred years ago. Even now people still agree with him. No one can live a completely isolated life. Without other people, life became empty and sad. We all need friends.
For some of us, though making friends is not difficult, feeling shy, we may not want to make the first move. It is also difficult at times to keep the friends we already have.
There are many books about friendship, but Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence (影响) People, written in 1936, is the most famous. This “how to” book about getting along with other people became a best-seller. It was later put into 28 languages.

Since the earliest times, trees have always been very useful and important to man who made use of them in many ways. Even today trees continue to serve man in so many ways.
Trees provide man with fruits and building in the form of wood . Without trees it would be impossible to build houses, boats and even bridges . Furniture such as tables, chairs and beds are made of wood.
In the tropics(热带) where it is very hot all through the year, trees protect man from the terrible heat. They are also used in preventing good and rich top soil from being washed away during heavy rains which are so common in the tropics.
If there were no trees or plants of some kinds to hold back the soil with their roots soil, heavy rains would wash the rich surface soil that is so important and necessary to agriculture(农业) .The result is that the land becomes a desert.
There are so many desert areas in the world. A long time ago these desert areas must have been very rich fertile(丰产的) areas, but since our ancestors(祖先) in the past hadn’t enough knowledge about science of nature, they cut down all the trees in the areas where they lived and never planted new ones. By and by , the rich surface soil was blown away and washed away by strong winds and heavy rains. In the end the land was turned into useless deserts where nothing could grow .

Since the earliest times, trees have always been very useful and important to man who made use of them in many ways. Even today trees continue to serve man in so many ways.
Trees provide man with fruits and building in the form of wood . Without trees it would be impossible to build houses, boats and even bridges . Furniture such as tables, chairs and beds are made of wood.
