I. Teaching aims:
How old are you
I’m ten.
This is my brother.
How old is he
He’s seven.

Talking about ages and birthday parties.

IV. Teaching procedure:
Period one
(Conversation, Target, Song, Activity 1)
1. Warm up -- Do and chant.
One two three four five, once I caught a fish alive.
Six seven eight nine ten, then I let it go again.
Why did you let it go Because it bit my finger so.
Which finger did it bite This little finger on my right.
2. Conversations
1). Set up a situation “Happy Birthday” to lead in the conversation.
G: How old are you, Tony
T: Count the candles.
G: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. You’re nine.
T: Yeah, that’s right.
G: How old is your sister
T: She’s eight. How old are you, Gogo
G: Please count.
T: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You’re five.
G: Yeah, that’s right.
2). Play the tape and have Ss repeat.
3). Divide the class into two groups to act out the dialog.
3. Target--Listen and say.
1) Point to a student in the classroom:
T: I’m (age). How old are you
S1: I’m (age).
2) Point to another student.
T: How old is (S1’s name)
S2: He / She is (age).
3) Have Ss look at the pictures in their books and model the dialog.
4) Play the tape and have the Ss listen and repeat the dialog.
A: How old are you B: I’m ten.
A: This is my brother. B. How old is he A: He’s seven.
4. Song
1) Listen and sing.
How old are you, Tony
How old are you, Tony
How old are you, Tony
Nine, nine, nine, nine, nine, I’m nine.
2) Make new verses with Jenny, Gogo, Ben and Lisa.
5. Activity 1—Match and say.

(Vocabulary, Practices 1-2, Activity 2)
1. Sing the song: P52 How old are you
2. Teaching the new words.
balloons candles presents cookies plates cups
1) Bring in object to introduce the new language: balloons, candles, presents, cookies, plates and cups.
2) Hold up each item and have Ss repeat.
3. Practice 1—Listen and number.
1) Have Ss look at the picture: What can they see
2) Listen to the tape one by one, have Ss write the right number in the right picture.
4. Practice 2—Listen and answer.
1) Have Ss look at the picture before listening to the tape.
2) Using the target language, have Ss interview each other in pairs.
5. Activity 2. Count and say.
1) Ss look at the book.
2) Tell Ss to count how many of each item they can find.
Three balloons! Three balloons! Six balloons! Cookies!
6. Exercise: Writing Book Pages33-36.
Period three
(Alphabet, WorkbookP33-36)
1. Sing the ABC song.
2.Alphabet
1) Listen, point and say.
a. Write Vv Ww Xx on the board and have Ss read them.
b. Read after the teacher:

c. Give Ss more words and have them point to the corresponding letters.
2) Listen and chant.

A. Have Ss look at the lyrics of the chant.
B. Play the tape and have Ss point.
C. Play the tape again and have Ss chant along.
3. Finish the exercises in Wb P33-36.
