Play the tape for A, and then pause the tape.
T: The dictionary is ….(Gesture for Ss to answer.) [Ss: is the heaviest book.]
Repeat for B, and have Ss write the answer on the page.

(2)Getting ready
Bring in Picture Cards 49-72.
Review the cards orally.
Using the book
Ask a volunteer to read aloud question A for the class.
T: Now, look at the pictures. Write the answers on the page.
Gives Ss time to fill in the blanks.

Put Ss into pairs and have them exchange their work for checking.

T: ( Point to the picture of panda. ) What is this [Ss: It’s a panda.]
T: ( Point to the newspaper headline.) What is this article about Can you guess
Elicit responses from Ss.
T: It’s about some giant panda going to Canada.
Using the book
T: Let’s read the news.
Give Ss time to read the news silently.
Have individual Ss read aloud newspaper article sentence by sentence.
T: (Point to Question A.) (S1’s name), can you read the question [S1: Where are Lee-Lee, Sing-Sing and Lan-Lan going ]
T: What’s the answer, (2’s name) [S2: They are going to a zoo near Vancouver (in Canada).]
T: Read the other questions and write the answers on the page.

(4)Getting ready
Ask individual Ss to read the words out loud.
Using the book
Point to the word salad .
T: /s/,/s/. Salad. I’ll play the tape. Let’s find the sound /s/.
Play the tape.
T: Can you find the words with the sound /s/ Circle them.
Have Ss say the words so that the class can check the answers.
Repeat the procedures with question B and C.
