六、完形填空(共20小题;共30分)
There
have
been
many
great
inventions,
which
have
changed
the
way
we
live.
The
first
great
invention
was
71

that
is
still
very
important
today—the
wheel(轮子).
This
made
it
easier
to
72

heavy
things
and
to
travel
long
distances.
For
hundreds
of
years
after
that
there
were
few
inventions
that
have
as
much
73

as
the
wheel.
Then
in
the
early
1800's
the
world
started
to
74
.
There
was
little
unknown
land
in
the
world.
People
did
not
75

to
explore
any
more.
They
began
to
work
so
as
to
76

life
better.
In
the
second
half
of
the
19th
century
many
great
inventions
were
made.
77

them
were
the
camera,
the
electric
light
and
the
radio.
These
all
became
a
big
78

of
our
life
today.
The
first
part
of
the
20th
century
saw
more
great
79
:
the
helicopter
in
1909;
movies
with
sound
in
1926;
the
computer
in
1928;
and
jet
planes
in
1930.
This
was
also
a
time
80

a
new
material
was
first
made.
Nylon
came
81

in
1935.
It
changed
the
82

of
clothes
people
had
been
wearing.
The
middle
part
of
the
20th
century
brought
new
ways
to
help
people
get
over
83
.
They
worked
very
well.
They
made
people
healthier
and
let
them
live
84

lives.
By
the
1960's
most
people
could
85

to
live
at
least
60.
By
this
time
most
people
had
a
very
good
life.
Of
course
new
inventions
86

to
be
made.
But
man
now
had
a
desire
to
explore
again.
The
world
was
87

to
man
but
the
stars
were
not.
Man
began
looking
for
ways
to
go
into
88
.
Russia
made
the
first
step.
Then
the
United
States
took
a
step.
Since
then
other
countries,
89

China
and
Japan,
have
made
their
steps
into
space.
In
1969
man
took
his
biggest
step
away
from
the
earth.
Americans
first
walked
on
the
moon.
This
is
certainly
just
a
90

thought.
New
inventions
will
someday
allow
us
to
do
things
we
have
never
dreamed
of.

C
H.
Cecil
Booth,
an
Englishman,
had
seen
a
machine
that
tried
to
pick
up
dust
and
dirt
from
a
carpet.
But
the
machine
did
not
work
well.
It
could
only
blow
the
dust
into
the
air.
In
a
few
minutes,
it
settled
back
onto
the
carpet.
Booth
wanted
to
invent
a
machine
that
could
solve
the
problem.
In
1901,
Booth
introduced
the
first
powered
vacuum
cleaner
(真空吸尘器)
model
that
used
the
technology
of
the
vacuum
tube.
He
got
the
idea
for
this
by
placing
a
handkerchief(手绢)
on
a
chair
and
then
placing
his
mouth
over
the
top
of
it.
He
then
sucked
up
(吸起)
the
handkerchief
with
his
mouth
and
realized
the
dirt
was
on
the
underside
of
the
handkerchief.
This
gave
him
the
idea
for
the
powered
vacuum
technology.
Unfortunately,
Booth's
vacuum
cleaner
was
so
large
that
it
took
two
people
to
run
it.
One
had
to
push
the
vacuum
cleaner
around
on
its
wheels
outside.
The
other
person
had
to
clean
the
house
inside.
During
the
First
World
War,
Booth's
machines
found
a
new
use.
One
of
London's
huge
buildings
was
used
to
house
hundreds
of
sailors
who
had
a
terrible
disease.
Doctors
did
not
know
how
to
stop
the
disease
from
spreading
but
thought
that
the
dust
in
the
old
building
had
something
to
do
with
the
illness.
Booth's
vacuum
machines
went
to
work
cleaning
the
big
building.
When
the
job
was
over,
workers
took
away
twenty-six
truckloads
of
dust
and
dirt.
Once
all
the
dust
was
removed
from
the
building,
the
disease
disappeared.
Though
Booth's
machines
worked
well
for
public
buildings,
few
private
homes
could
afford
them.
Not
only
were
they
expensive
to
buy,
but
they
required
two
people
to
operate
them.
In
America,
inventors
went
to
work
trying
to
make
Booth's
machines
smaller
and
more
affordable.
When
they
succeeded
in
producing
the
vacuum
cleaner
that
one
person
could
operate,
centuries
of
cleaning
customs
changed.

D
Most
of
the
20th
century
has
been
a
development
on
the
Industrial
Revolution
taken
to
an
extreme:
people
now
own
more
products
than
ever
before;
there
are
enough
nuclear
weapons
to
destroy
the
earth
several
times
over;
there
is
hardly
any
forest
left
and
pollution
has
got
to
the
point
where
we
buy
water.
Within
a
few
years
I
predict
you
will
be
able
to
buy
air
(There
once
was
a
time
when
you
didn't
need
to
buy
food
or
shelter
either.).
Important
developments
in
the
last
century
are
the
breaking
down
of
the
class
structures
left
over
from
the
Industrial
Revolution
stage,
bringing
with
it
the
empowerment
of
the
“common
man”:
the
working
day
is
set
by
law
to
only
8
hours
a
day,
everyone
has
the
vote,
the
media
has
less
obvious
government
control,
people
have
landed
on
the
moon,
sent
spacecrafts
to
Mars
and
so
on.
Families
have
also
shrunk
drastically(强烈地);
the
nuclear
family
came
about,
and
especially
in
the
last
half
of
the
20th
century,
one-parent
families
are
becoming
more
common.
This
shrinking
in
the
size
of
the
family
shows
the
increased
independence
of
people—once
upon
a
time
people
had
to
live
in
large
groups
to
survive.
As
humans
have
“become
the
gods”,
they
have
realized
their
individuality
and
independence
and
taken
their
control
of
the
world
to
an
extreme.
In
many
countries
the
land
is
almost
completely
used
in
the
production
of
food
and
as
living
space
and
they
live
in
small
cities
which
are
entirely
human
constructed,
made
from
materials
which
are
also
entirely
human
constructed(concrete,
bricks)
with
hardly
any
remains
of
nature.
Weeds
are
poisoned
because
they
are
messy;
even
parks
have
trees
grown
in
tidy
lines;
grass
is
mowed
to
keep
it
short
and
so
on.
I
think
the
massive
drug
“problem”
troubling
people
is
a
result
of
too
much
of
this
influence,
humans
needing
to
escape
the
stark
world
they
have
created
by
entering
fantasy
worlds.
Over
the
last
100
years,
the
20th
century
consciousness
has
spread
throughout
the
world;
most
of
Asia
has
been
thoroughly
“Westernized”,
and
most
of
the
Third
World
is
being
overrun
by
Western
ways
of
doing
things
and
living.

八、短文7选5(5选5等)(共5小题;共10分)
Here
are
some
tips
for
a
new
guitar
player
who's
been
given
a
guitar
but
has
no
money
for
lessons.
108.

Start
by
practising
chords,
and
playing
them
slowly,
and
over
and
over
again.
Discomfort,
even
pain,
is
normal
when
you
begin
to
play
the
guitar,
since
you're
training
your
muscles
to
do
things
that
they
have
never
had
to
do
before.
The
physical
discomfort
can
often
turn
people
off
guitar
playing
for
life.
109.

Relax
When
you
first
try
to
shape
chords
with
your
left
hand,
the
fingers
will
tend
to
get
in
each
other's
way.
The
way
to
fix
this
is
to
slow
down,
and
work
on
getting
each
individual
finger
in
place
so
that
they
do
not
muffle(压抑声音)
the
strings.
Start
by
trying
to
hold
the
guitar
in
playing
position
without
excess
tension.
110.

After
you
get
used
to
the
sensation
of
trying
to
play
the
guitar
in
a
relaxed
manner,
try
extending
your
efforts
to
more
demanding
chords
like
C
major
and
A
minor.
After
you've
mastered
a
few
chords
you'll
actually
find
yourself
be
able
to
play
some
simple
songs.

111.

As
a
beginner
you
need
to
get
the
feel
of
holding
and
playing
a
guitar.
Get
advice
from
a
friend
as
far
as
brand,
condition
and
quality,
but
remember
that
the
main
thing
is
what
feels
comfortable
to
you.
112.

A.
Your
Body
Needs
To
Learn
B.
Be
prepared
to
try
out
a
lot
of
guitars.
C.
In
fact,
the
discomfort
will
pass
as
you
get
used
to
the
movements.
D.
Then
go
on
to
make
simple
chord
shapes
like
E
minor
in
the
first
position.
E.
Keep
on
learning
and
you
will
make
it.
F.
Guitars
vary
from

G.
After
all,
you're
going
to
sit
in
your
room
playing
it
for
quite
some
time.

M:Sorry.I
had
to
walk
to
work
this
morning.
W:How
long
does
it
take
you
M:About
three
quarters
of
an
hour.

M:Would
you
like
to
go
to
the
zoo
this
Sunday
W:I'd
love
to.I
haven't
been
to
the
zoo
for
a
long
time.
M:Me
neither.That's
why
I
thought
going
to
the
zoo.

M:Do
you
mind
if
we
don't
go
to
the
cinema
tonight
I
can
hardly
keep
my
eyes
open
after
studying
all
night.
W:No,it
doesn't
matter.We
can
go
tomorrow
or
next
week.
M:Is
the
film
very
good
W:Yes,it
is.Very
exciting!
M:Hum,perhaps
I'll

all.

M:Oh,madam.What
can
I
do
for
you
W:I'm
sorry
to
say
that
my
telephone
bill
is
incorrect.
M:Incorrect,madam That's
very
strange.
W:Yes,I
know,and
what's
more,this
isn't
the
first
time.
M:Really,madam I
find
it
very
hard
to
believe.
W:Look,it's
happened
five
or
six
times
in
the
past
three
months.
M:Ah.Well,I
must
apologize,madam.Maybe
it's
the
new
computer
which
causes
the
trouble.
W:Well,don't
you
think
it's
about
time
you
get
it
working
properly It's
most
inconvenient.
M:I
agree
entirely.I'm
very
sorry
about
it.I
promise
you

won't
happen
again.

W:Hi,Ben.
M:Hi,Monica.How
are
you
W:I'm
fine.Thank
you.I've
just
been
swimming
in
the
lake.How
was
your
holiday,Ben
M:It
was
great.We
went
fishing
on
the
river.
W:What
was
the
best
part
of
your
trip
M:The
best
part
was
being
able
to
swim
in
the
river
wherever
we
went.
W:Did
you
catch
any
fish
M:We
all
caught
some
fish,but
Dad
caught
the
most.He
caught
22
fish
in
the
seven
days
when
we
were
there;
Mum
caught
6,but
my
cousin
Kathy
caught
the
biggest
one.
W:Yes,but
how
many
fish
did
you
catch
M:I
only
caught
one,but
Mum
said
it
tasted
the
best
of
all.
W:It
sounds
like
you
had
a
great
holiday.
M:We
did.I
have
to
go
now.It's
time
for
dinner.
W:What
do
you
have
for
dinner
tonight
M:I
don't
know.Anything
as
long
as
it's
not
fish.

M:It's
us.
W:What

you
mean
by"us"
M:Well,we
used
to
talk
to
each
other
before
we
were
married.Do
you
remember
W:What
do
you
mean We
are
talking
now,aren't
we
M:Oh,yes,but
we
used
to
do
so
much
together.
W:We
still
go
to
the
cinema
together,don't
we
M:Yes,but
we
used
to
go
out
for
walks
together,remember
W:Oh,yes,I
can
remember.
M:And
we
used
to
go
out
to
do
silly
things,like
running
through
the
park.
W:Yes,I
remember.I
used
to
catch
terrible
colds.
M:But
we
never
used
to
quarrel.You
used
to
think
I
was
wonderful.Once...Where
are
you
going
W:Back
to
live
with
my
parents.That's
something
else
we
used
to
do
before
we
were
married.Remember

W:Tom!What's
the
matter
with
you Can't
you
wake
up
this
morning
M:I
stayed
up
last
night.My
friend
Bobby
had
a
party.I
only
slept
about
four
hours.
W:Why
didn't
you
stay
in
bed
this
morning
M:I
have
to
meet
my
study
group
at
the
library
in
our
school.We
have
an
English
test
next
week.
W:An
English
test Why
didn't
you
study
last
night
instead
of
going
to
the
party
M:Oh,it's
OK.I
studied
a
lot
before
the
party.
W:Maybe
that's
not
a
good
idea.I
read
a
research
study.It
said
that
if
you
don't
get
enough
sleep
after
you
study,
you
may
forget
30%
of
what
you've
studied!
