The
principles
about
applying
for
jobs
have
altered
greatly
lately.
In
the
past,
people
preferred
a
hand-written
application
letter.
However,
nowadays
it
is
becoming
more
and
more
common
to
apply
for
a
job
through
the
Internet.
You
can
find
information
on
the
Internet
about
how
to
apply
for
jobs.
Information
can
be
found
about
how
to
fulfill
your
application
letter,
the
clothes
that
you
should
wear
and
how
to
carry
out
the
interview
itself.
The
importance
of
body
language
is
often
mentioned,
but
doesn't
always
get
the
attention
it
deserves.
After
all,
before
a
word
has
even
been
spoken,
your
body
language
will
have
already
given
people
their
first
impression
of
you.
Additionally,
your
body
language
will
also
give
out
a
lot
more
information.
Based
on
your
body
language
it
can
be
seen
if
you
are
self-confident.
It
can
also
show
if
you
are
a
busy
or
a
quiet
type
and
it
helps
give
an
impression
of
whether
you
are
speaking
truthfully
or
not.
Body
language
can
show
how
enthusiastic
you
are
and
if
you
are
a
nice
person,
someone
who
will
take
his
work
seriously,
but
also
someone
who
has
a
sense
of
humor
and
can
enjoy
a
joke
from
time
to
time.
The
members
of
the
application
committee
will
ask
you
questions,
but
your
answers
won't
only
be
oral.
The
committee
will
not
only
pay
attention
to
what
you
say,
but
also
to
how
you
say
it!
Body
language
will
determine
first
if
it
"clicks",
and
sometimes
all
it
takes
is
just
a
few
seconds.
Everybody
uses
body
language,
but
it
takes
place
mostly
at
a
subconscious(下意识的)
level.
Using
body
language
appropriately,
you
can
definitely
increase
your
chances
of
getting
a
job.

C
Culture
Shock
The
term,
culture
shock,
describes
the
anxiety
produced
when
a
person
moves
to
a
completely
new
environment.
This
term
expresses
the
lack
of
direction,
the
feeling
of
not
knowing
what
to
do,
and
not
knowing
what
is
appropriate
or
inappropriate.
The
feeling
of
culture
shock
generally
sets
in
after
the
first
few
weeks
of
coming
to
a
new
place.
We
can
describe
culture
shock
as
the
physical
and
emotional
discomfort
one
suffers
when
coming
to
live
in
another
country
or
place.
Often,
the
way
that
we
lived
before
is
not
accepted
as
or
considered
as
normal
in
the
new
place.
Everything
is
different,
for
example,
not
speaking
the
language,
not
knowing
how
to
use
banking
machines
and
so
forth.
Although
one
can
experience
real
pain
from
culture
shock,
it
is
also
an
opportunity
for
resetting
one's
life
objectives.
It
is
a
great
opportunity
for
learning
and
acquiring
new
viewpoints.
Culture
shock
can
make
one
develop
a
better
understanding
of
oneself.
Culture
shock
has
many
stages.
The
first
stage
is
called
the
"honeymoon"
stage.
The
new
arrival
may
feel
excited
as
everything
is
new.
In
the
second
stage,
a
person
may
encounter
some
difficult
times
in
daily
life.
For
example,
communication
difficulties
may
occur
such
as
not
being
understood.
There
may
be
feelings
of
discontent,
anger,
sadness,
and
feeling
incompetence.
This
happens
when
a
person
is
trying
to
adapt
to
a
new
culture.
Transition(过渡)
between
the
old
methods
and
those
of
the
new
country
is
a
difficult
process
and
takes
time
to
complete.
The
third
stage
is
characterized
by
gaining
some
understanding
of
the
new
culture.
One
may
start
to
feel
a
certain
psychological
balance.
The
new
arrival
may
start
to
have
a
feeling
of
direction
and
want
to
belong.
In
the
fourth
stage,
the
person
realizes
that
the
new
culture
has
good
and
bad
things
to
offer.
The
person
has
a
more
solid
feeling
of
belonging
and
starts
to
set
goals
for
living.
The
fifth
stage
is
called
the
"re-entry
shock".
This
occurs
when
a
return
to
the
country
of
origin
is
made.
One
may
find
that
things
are
no
longer
the
same.
For
example,
some
of
the
newly
acquired
customs
are
not
in
use
in
the
old
culture.
Many
factors(因素)
contribute
to
the
length
and
effects
of
culture
shock.
For
example,
the
individual's
state
of
mental
health,
type
of
personality,
previous
experiences,
familiarity
with
the
language,
and
level
of
education.
So
the
five
stages
are
present
at
different
times
and
each
person
has
their
own
way
of
reacting.
101.
What

culture
shock
A.
It

C.
It

D.
It
can

avoided
if
one
can
understand
the
language.

is
to
.
A.
discuss

B.

C.

and

D.

and

D
As
you
are
learning
a
language
and
culture,
it
is
a
good
idea
to
stop
from
time
to
time
and
ask
yourself,
“How
am
I
doing ”
Your
answer
won't
always
be
a
positive
one.
One
day
your
answer
to
this
question
might
be,
“Not
well.
I'm
tired
of
trying
to
do
things
the
way
Americans
do
them.
I'm
tired
of
trying
to
adapt
to
American
culture.
I
want
to
do
things
my
own
way!
And
I'm
tired
of
speaking
English!”
Culture
learning,
like
language
learning
is
hard
work.
It
can
be
tiring.
This
tired
feeling,
or
culture
fatigue,
is
a
normal
part
of
adapting
to
a
different
language
and
culture.
If
you
are
experiencing
culture
fatigue,
you
may
find
yourself
needing
exact
answers
and
losing
patience
when
you
don't
get
them.
In
our
own
cultures,
we
are
often
sure
of
what
to
do
or
how
to
act.
However,
when
we
are
trying
to
adapt
to
another
culture,
we
are
sometimes
not
sure
how
to
act.
Even
Americans
will
sometimes
be
unable
to
tell
you
exactly
how
to
act
in
a
certain
situation.
You
may
find
that,
in
answer
to
questions
about
U.S.
culture,
Americans
often
answer,
“Well,
it
depends,”
or
“It's
hard
to
say.”
With
culture
learning
questions,
there
is
rarely
one
answer
except
“It
depends.”
It
is
rarely
possible
to
answer
with,
“Do
this”
or
“Don't
do
that”.
Why
Because
“Do
this”,
for
example,
means
“Act
this
way
in
all
situations
with
all
Americans.”
As
we
have
seen,
all
Americans
are
not
the
same
and
therefore
all
situations
cannot
be
the
same.
“It
depends.”
is
sometimes
the
best
answer.
One
result
of
culture
fatigue
is
that
the
person
who
is
trying
to
adapt
to
a
new
culture
may
start
asking
for
clear,
definite
answers
to
all
questions.
Another
result
of
culture
fatigue
may
be
that
the
person
begins
to
criticize
many
things
about
the
new
culture.
In
learning
another
culture,
you
may
observe
things
which
you
do
not
like
or
which
you
do
not
want
to
accept.
There
are
always
things
you
can
admire
in
another
culture,
but
you
will
also
see
things
you
do
not
want
to
accept
or
should
not
accept.
However,
due
to
fatigue
and
frustration,
some
people
become
too
critical
of
the
new
culture
in
which
they
are
living.
Examples
of
common
criticisms
of
U.S.
culture
are:
—American
food
is
terrible.
—Americans
are
only
interested
in
money.
—Americans
always
exaggerate.
To
them,
everything
is
“great”
or
“fantastic.”
One
good
thing
about
such
criticism
is
that
it
can
help
you
to
get
rid
of
frustration.
It
can
help
you
“let
off
steam”.
On
the
other
hand,
keep
in
mind
that
general
criticisms
can
often
be
negative
stereotypes.
As
with
all
stereotypes,
they
can
be
partially
true;
so
when
you
criticize
an
aspect
of
culture,
ask
yourself,
“Is
this
true
or
is
it
a
stereotype ”
Remember,
however,
that
adapting
to
a
culture
does
not
mean
accepting
everything
in
that
culture.

Besides,
in
top-grade
restaurants,
you
can
always
ask
for
a
pair
of
knife
and
fork,
if
you
find
the
chopsticks
not
helpful
enough.
The
real
difference
is
that
in
the
West,
you
have
your
own
plate
of
food,
while
in
China
the
dishes
are
placed
on
the
table
and
everyone
shares.
If
you
are
being
treated
to
a
formal
dinner
and
particularly
if
the
host
thinks
you're
in
the
country
for
the
first
time,
he
will
do
the
best
to
give
you
a
taste
of
many
different
types
of
dishes.
The
meal
usually
begins
with
a
set
of
at
least
four
cold
dishes,
to
be
followed
by
the
main
courses
of
hot
meat
and
vegetable
dishes.
109.

If
you
wish
to
have
your
rice
to
go
with
other
dishes,
you
should
say
so
in
good
time,
for
most
of
the
Chinese
choose
to
have
the
staple
food
at
last
or
have
none
of
them
at
all.
110.

In
formal
dinners,
there
are
always
"public"
chopsticks
and
spoons
for
this
purpose,
but
some
hosts
may
use
their
own
chopsticks.
111.

It
is
always
polite
to
eat
the
food.
If
you
do
not
eat
it,
just
leave
the
food
in
the
plate.
People
in
China
tend
to
over-order
food,
for
they
will
find
it
embarrassing
if
all
the
food
is
consumed.
112.

Or
you
will
always
overeat!
A.
This
is
a
sign
of
genuine
friendship
and
politeness.
B.
Chinese
food
contains
much
less
calorie.
C.
Soup
then
will
be
served
to
be
followed
by
staple
food
ranging
from
rice,
noodles
to
dumplings.
D.
When
you
have
had
enough,
just
say
so.
E.
Of
course,
the
main
difference
on
the
Chinese
dinner
table
is
chopsticks
instead
of
knife
and
fork,
but
that's
only
superficial.
F.
Some
Chinese
people
are
so
hospitable
that
they
use
their
own
chopsticks
to
put
food
into
the
plates
of
their
guests.
G.
Perhaps
one
of
the
things
that
surprises
a
Western
visitor
most
is
that
some
of
the
Chinese
hosts
like
to
put
food
into
the
plates
of
their
guests.
