七、阅读理解(共17小题;共34分)
A
Short
and
shy,
Ben
Saunders
was
the
last
kid
in
his
class
picked
for
any
sports
team.
"Football,
tennis,
cricket—anything
with
a
round
ball,
I
was
useless,"
he
says
now
with
a
laugh.
But
back
then
he
was
the
object
of
jokes
in
school
gym
classes
in
England's
rural
Devonshire.
It
was
a
mountain
bike
he
received
for
his
15th
birthday
that
changed
him.
At
first
the
teen
went
biking
alone
in
a
nearby
forest.
Then
he
began
to
cycle
along
with
a
runner
friend.
Gradually,
Saunders
set
his
mind
building
up
his
body,
increasing
his
speed,
strength
and
endurance.
At
age
18,
he
ran
his
first
marathon.
The
following
year,
he
met
John
Ridgway,
who
became
famous
in
the
1960s
for
rowing
an
open
boat
across
the
Atlantic
Ocean.
Saunders
was
hired
as
an
instructor
at
Ridgway's
school
of
Adventure
in
Scotland,
where
he
learned
about
the
older
man's
cold-water
exploits(成就).
Intrigued,
Saunders
read
all
he
could
about
Arctic
explorers
and
North
Pole
expeditions,
then
decided
that
this
would
be
his
future.
Journeys
to
the
Pole
aren't
the
usual
holidays
for
British
country
boys,
and
many
people
dismissed
his
dream
as
fantasy.
"John
Ridgway
was
one
of
the
few
who
didn't
say,
'You
are
completely
crazy,'"
Saunders
says.
In
2001,
after
becoming
a
skilled
skier,
Saunders
started
his
first
long-distance
expedition
toward
the
North
Pole.
He
suffered
frostbite,
had
a
closer
encounter(遭遇)

Saunders
has
since
become
the
youngest
person
to
ski
alone
to
the
North
Pole,
and
he's
skied
more
of
the
Arctic
by
himself
than
any
other
Briton.
His
old
playmates
would
not
believe
the
transformation.
This
October,
Saunders,
27,
heads
south
to
explore
from
the
coast
of
Antarctica
to
the
South
Pole
and
back,
an
1800-mile
journey
that
has
never
been
completed
on
skis.
101.
The
turning
point
in
Saunders'
life
came
when
.
A.
he
started
to
play
ball
games
B.
he
got
a
mountain
bike
at
age
15
C.
he
ran
his
first
marathon
at
age
18
D.
he
started
to
receive
Ridgway's

102.
We
can
learn
from
the
text
that
Ridgway
.
A.
dismissed
Saunders'
dream
as
fantasy
B.
built
up
his
body
together
with
Saunders
C.
hired
Saunders
for
his
cold-water
experience
D.
won
his

school
in
Scotland.
B.
He
followed
Ridgway
to

D.
He
was
the
first
Briton

104.
It
can
be
inferred
that
Saunders'
journey
to
the
North
Pole
.
A.
was
accompanied
by
his
old
playmates
B.
set
a
record
in
the

The
underlined
word
"Intrigued"
in
the

probably
means
.
A.
Excited
B.
Convinced
C.
Fascinated
D.

B
Have
you
ever
gotten
up
one
day
and
said
to
yourself,
"I
know
what
I
want!
I
want
to
visit
the
South
Pole!"
Well,
my
guess
is
few
of
us
have
ever
thought
about
this,
much
less
to
give
it
voice.
Antarctic
tours
offer
a
chance
to
explore
an
almost
totally
pristine(原始的)
area
of
our
planet.
Here
you
are
given
a
chance
to
see
and
experience
nature
in
its
most
pure
form,
untouched
and
unspoiled
by
civilization.
Antarctic
tours
are
usually
set
in
motion
in
the
Argentina's
capital
city
of
Buenos
Aires.
From
Buenos
Aires
one
travels
south
to
Tierra
del
Fuego
and
then
to
the
world's
southernmost
city
of
Ushuaia.
It
is
here
at
Ushuaia
that
your
Antarctic
tour
cruise
will
sail
you
on
your
way
to
South
Pole
adventures.
Sit
back
within
a
cocoon(保护)
of
warmth
and
comfort
as
you
are
gently
whisked
by
giant
glaciers
lining
Beagle
Channel
and
Drake
Passage.
After
your
arrival
at
Antarctica
you
will
be
taken
by
the
motorized
zodiac
to
the
mainland.
Here
on
the
southernmost
continent
there
are
experts
in
the
history,
biology,
geology
and
marine
life
in
a
classroom
setting
and
wild
excursions
to
aid
your
research,
your
studies
or
just
plain
curiosity.
Your
Antarctic
tour
will
bring
you
on
a
thrilling
visit
to
see
penguins,
seals,
sea
lions
and
aquatic
life
found
only
here.
You
will
enjoy
the
panoramic(全景的)
view
of
a
remote
archipelago
with
a
warm
temperate
climate
and
a
colony
of
elephant.
Then
you
will
be
struck
by
the
rich
life
that
exists
only
here.
A
trip
to
Antarctica
is
a
travel
feast
for
the
senses.
Watch
in
amazement
as
a
sheer
cliff
of
ice
drifts
shining
in
the
sunlight.
You
next
experience
the
earsplitting
sound
of
ice
breaking
off
and
the
loud
sound
of
crackling
ice
as
it
tumbles
down
from
the
floating
ice
mountain
into
the
deepest
bluest
colored
water.
106.

it
is
a
pity
that
nobody
wants

in
the
Antarctic.
B.
Scientists
are
working
hard
in
the
Antarctic.
C.
There

C
Penguins
are
the
number-one
attraction
for
many
visitors
to
Antarctica.
If
you
go
on
a
ship
that
is
allowed
to
make
shore
landings,
you
may
see
them.
But
to
get
a
close
look
at
penguins,
you
have
to
be
smart.
First
of
all,
keep
in
mind
that
Antarctica's
visitor
rules
require
that
you
remain
at
least
five
meters
away
from
the
penguins
in
order
not
to
disturb
them.
You
could
easily
become
responsible
for
the
death
of
a
little
penguin
or
the
destruction
of
an
egg
if
your
too-close
presence
should
disturb
a
penguin
parent.
If
a
penguin
is
trying
to
move
away
from
you,
you
must
stop
what
you're
doing
and
back
off
even
if
you're
farther
than
five
meters
away.
However,
the
rules
don't
prevent
a
curious
penguin
from
approaching
within
five
meters
of
you—as
long
as
the
bird
makes
the
move,
not
you.
Little
penguins,
in
particular,
are
quite
curious.
I've
seen
several
lucky
tourists
who
were
astonished
to
find
that
little
penguins
came
right
up
to
them.
If
a
penguin
comes
extremely
close
to
you,
remember:
you
are
not
allowed
to
touch
or
hold
them.
Here
are
more
tips
for
getting
close
to
penguins:
Ignore
the
smell:
where
penguins
live
is
filled
with
guano(海鸟粪)
and
the
smell
takes
some
time
getting
used
to.
Be
quiet
because
loud
noises
make
penguins
nervous.
Fast
or
sudden
movements
signal
meat-eating
animals
to
penguins,
and
they
react
accordingly,
so
slow
down
when
you
walk
around
them.
Since
it
may
take
half
an
hour
or
more
before
the
penguins
get
used
to
you,
you
need
to
be
patient.
Put
away
your
camera—too
often
people
are
so
focused
on
getting
the
pictures
that
they
forget
to
look
with
their
own
eyes,
but
most
of
your
most
memorable
experiences
in
Antarctica
will
be
marked
in
your
mind,
not
on
a
roll
of
films.

What
is
the
purpose
of
the
text
A.
To
offer
some
tips
about
catching
penguins.
B.
To
invite
readers
to
pay
a
visit
to

C.
To

D
The
hole
in
the
Earth's
ozone
layer
(臭氧层)
has
until
now
protected
Antarctica
from
the
worst
effects
of
global
warming.
But
scientists
have
warned
that
as
the
hole
closes
up
in
the
next
few
decades,
temperatures
on
the
continent
could
rise
by
around
3℃,
with
melting(融化)
ice
leading
to
a
global
sea
level
increase
of
up
to
1.4
meters.
In
the
past
decades
the
western
Antarctica
has
seen
rapid
ice
loss
as
the
world
has
warmed,
but
the
other
parts
of
the
continent
have
been
cooling,
resulting
in
a
10%
increase
in
ice
in
the
seas
around
the
area.
This
is
because
the
hole
in
the
ozone
layer
has
increased
cold
winds
in
Antarctica,
making
much
of
the
continent
surface
colder
than
usual.
But
now
that
the
grasses
that
cause
the
ozone
hole
have
not
been
allowed,
scientists
expect
the
hole
to
repair
itself
within
the
next
50
to
60
years.
By
then
the
cooling
effect
will
have
disappeared
slowly
and
the
Antarctic
will
face
the
full
influence
of
global
warming.
This
means
an
increase
in
air
temperatures
of
around
3℃
and
a
reduction
in
sea
ice
by
around
a
third.
The
biggest
threat(威胁)
to
the
continent
comes
from
warming
seas.
Robert
Johnson,
a
scientist
who
checks
Antarctica
ice
sheets,
said,
“The
ice
sheets
in
Antarctica
are
hundreds
of
metres
thick.
But
once
warm
ocean
waters
start
flowing
underneath,
the
ice
will
begin
thinning
and
could
break
up
very
quickly.”
Thinning
ice
sheets
cause
ice
to
break
away
from
the
continent
and
to
melt
even
faster.
Escaping
ice
from
western
Antarctica
has
already
resulted
in
a
10%
rise
in
global
sea
level
in
recent
decades.
Johnson
believes
that
international
action
to
reduce
global
warming
is
required
immediately
or
it
may
be
too
late.
“Everything
is
connected—Antarctica
may
be
a
long
way
away
but
it
is
an
important
part
of
the
Earth's
system,”
said
Johnson.
“It
contains
90%
of
the
world's
ice,
70%
of
the
world's
fresh
water
and
that
is
enough,
if
it
melts
completely,
to
raise
sea
levels
by
63
meters.”
Even
in
a
worse-case
situation
scientists
don't
expect
the
ice
to
entirely
disappear,
but
predict
that,
because
of
the
melting
ice
sheets,
the
sea
level
rise
will
be
around
1.4
meters
higher
by
the
end
of
the
century.
115.

It
is
causing
the
ice
to
melt
faster.

How
to
Control
Your
Body
Language
In
business
discussions,
non-verbal(非语言的)
communication
is
as
important
as
verbal
communication.
Studies
suggest
that
non-verbal
communication
is
so
important
that
it
delivers(传递)
more
than
55
percent
of
the
message
across,
without
actually
using
words.
118.
The
following
tips
on
non-verbal
communication
will
help
you
control
your
own
body
language
in
order
to
be
successful
in
business
discussions.
Be
on
Time
Perhaps
one
of
the
worst
and
also
the
most
frequent
mistakes
is
not
to
take
promises
of
time
seriously.
119.
Being
late
not
only
shakes
your
self-confidence,
but
also
gives
a
poor
first
impression
to
others.
Some
cultures
are
so
serious
about
being
on
time
that
they
may
even
consider
being
late
impolite.
The
final
result
is
that
the
discussion
process
will
suffer.
Make
the
Old-fashioned
Handshake
120.
It
shows
confidence
and
promotes
trust
among
the
individuals.
Researchers
have
suggested
that
a
handshake
makes
people
comfortable
and
improves
agreement.
For
business
discussions,
this
promotes
honesty
in
the
communication
and
thus
leads
to
successful
dealings.
Know
Your
Listeners
121.
Rely
on
your
feeling
and
respond
according
to
your
listeners.
When
making
a
discussion,
one
needs
to
be
aware
of
(意识到)
the
things
he
must
share
and
he
is
talking
about.
A
successful
discussant
ensure(确保)

for
the
most
proper
results.
Mind
Your
Facial
Expressions
Some
casual(随意的)
facial
expressions
may
destroy
effective
communication.
In
some
cases,
showing
fear
or
worry
may
also
be
mistaken
as
being
unable
and
lack
of
confidence—things
that
must
not
be
used
in
business
meetings.
Therefore,
ensure
that
you
have
trained
yourself
to
improve
your
positive
expressions
and
hide
the
negative
ones.
122.
A.
Avoid
looking
at
someone
directly
for
a
long
time.
B.
You
should
always
keep
your
physical
actions
positive.
C.
Discussion
is
a
talk
between
two
or
more
people
or
parties.
D.
Never
underestimate
the
power
of
a
good
handshake.
E.
Each
time
you
are
leaving
for
a
business
meeting,
show
up
on
time.
F.
One
needs
to
be
aware
of
the
body
language
of
his
listeners
as
well.
G.
This
means
that
people
need
to
be
aware
of
their

while
discussing.
