七、阅读理解(共16小题;共32分)
A
Edmund
Halley
was
an
English
scientist
who
lived
over
200
years
ago.
He
studied
the
observations
of
comets(彗星)
which
other
scientists
had
made.
The
orbit
of
one
particular
comet
was
a
very
difficult
mathematical(数学)
problem.
He
could
not
figure
it
out.
Neither
could
other
scientists
who
dealt
with
such
problems.
However,
Halley
had
a
friend
named
Newton,
who
was
a
brilliant
mathematician.
Newton
thought
he
had
already
worked
out
that
problem,
but
he
could
not
find
the
papers
on
which
he
had
done
it.
He
told
Halley
that
the
orbit
of
a
comet
had
the
shape
of
an
ellipse(椭圆).
Now
Halley
set
to
work.
He
figured
out
(解决;计算出)
the
orbits
of
some
of
the
comets
that
had
been
observed
by
scientists.
He
made
a
surprising
discovery.
The
comets
that
had
appeared
in
the
years
1531,
1607,
and
1682
all
had
the
same
orbit.
Yet
their
appearances
had
been
75
to
76
years
apart.
This
seemed
very
strange
to
Halley.
The
different
comets
followed
the
same
orbit.
The
more
Halley
thought
about

three
different
comets,
as
people
thought.
He

that
they

simply
seen
the
same
comet
three
times.
The
comet
had
gone

had
come
back
again.
It

an
astonishing
idea!
Halley

of
what
comet
would
happen
in
the
future.
He
decided
that
this
comet
would
appear
in
the
year
1758.
There
were
53
years
to
go
before
Halley's
prediction
could
be
tested.
In
1758
the
comet
appeared
in
the

Halley
did
not
see
it,
for
he
has
died
some
years

since
then
that
comet

Halley's
comet,
in
his
honor.

Saturn(土星)
is
the
sixth
planet
from
the
sun
in
our
solar
system.
It
is
the
second-largest
planet
in
our
solar
system
(Jupiter
is
the
largest).
It
has
beautiful
rings
that
are
made
mostly
of
ice
chunks
(and
some
rocks)
that
range
from
the
size
of
a
fingernail
to
the
size
of
a
car.
The
rings
were
first
observed
by
Galileo
in
the
17th
century.
Saturn
is
visible
without
using
a
telescope,
but
a
low-power
telescope
is
needed
to
see
its
rings.
Saturn
is
made
mostly
of
hydrogen
and
helium(氦)
gas.
Saturn
is
about
74,898
miles
in
diameter(at
the
equator).
This
is
about
9.4
times
the
diameter
of
the
Earth.
764
Earths
could
fit
inside
a
hollowed-out
Saturn.
Saturn
is
the
most
oblate
planet
in
our
solar
system.
It
has
a
equatorial
diameter
of
74,898
miles
and
a
polar
diameter
of
67,560
miles.
This
is
a
difference
of
about
10%.
Saturn's
flattened
shape
is
probably
caused
by
its
fast
rotation(旋转)
and
its
gaseous
composition.
Saturn's
mass
is
about
5.69×1,026
kg.
Although
this
is
95
times
the
mass
of
the
Earth,
the
gravity
on
Saturn
is
only
1.08
times
the
gravity

Earth.
This
is
because
Saturn
is
such
a
large
planet
(and
the
gravitational

exerts
upon
an
object
at
the
planet's

is
proportional
to

to
the

Have
you
ever
dreamed
of
visiting
a
planet
in
the
Milky
Way
While
the
trip
sounds
exciting,
it
would
take
years
and
years
to
reach
your
destination.
So
in
the
future,
bedtime
for
astronauts
may
be
more
than
a
few
hours
of
regular
shut-eye.
They
would
have
to
sleep
for
years.
European
researchers
are
now
conducting
hibernation
experiments.
The
study
may
help
them
understand
whether
humans
could
ever
sleep
through
the
years
it
would
take
for
a
space
flight
to
distant
planets.
"If
there
was
an
effective
technology,
it
could
make
deep-space
travel
a
reality,"
said
Mark
Ayre
of
the
European
Space
Agency
last
month.
What
seems
like
science
fiction
is
not
completely
unlikely.
Researchers
have
been
able
to
use
chemicals
to
put
living
cells
into
a
sleep-like
state
where
they
don't
age.
They
have
now
moved
on
to
small,
non-
hibernating
mammals(哺乳动物)
like
rats.
A
major
challenge
is
the
fact
that
cells
can
be
very
simple
systems,
whereas
body
organs
are
far
more
complex.
"It's
like
moving
from
a
simple
Apple
computer
to
a
supercomputer."
said
Marco
Biggiogera,
a
hibernation
researcher
at
Italy's
University
of
Pavia.
Just
like
bears
and
frogs,
the
hibernation
of
human
beings
would
cause
a
person's
metabolism(新陈代谢)
lower
so
they
would
need
less
energy.
Medical
research,
however,
is
just
half
of
a
space
flight
hibernation
system.
There
is
the
challenge
of
designing
a
suitable
protective
shelter.
Such
a
shelter
would
provide
the
proper
environment
for
hibernation,
such
as
the
proper
temperature.
It
would
also
have
to
monitor
life
functions
and
serve
the
physiological
needs
of
the
hibernator.
According
to
Ayre,
the
six-person
Human

Planets

Jupiter's
moon
Callisto,
could
be
an
opportunity
to
use
human
hibernation.
The
mission
aims
to
send
six
humans
on
a
five-year
flight
to
Callisto,
where
they
will
spend
30
days,
in
2045.

The
brightest
object
in
the
evening
sky
after
the
sun
and
the
moon
isn't
a
star,
but
a
planet.
It's
Venus(金星),
our
closest
neighbor
and
the
second
planet
from
the
sun.
Venus
is
so
bright
that
you
can
see
it
both
at
night
and
in
the
early
morning.
This
caused
some
confusion
for
ancient
Egyptian(埃及的)
and
Greek(希腊的)
star
observers.
Because
they
saw
Venus
at
two
different
times,
they
thought
it
was
two
different
planets.
What
makes
Venus
so
bright
Huge
clouds,
20
miles
thick,
completely
surround
it
and
reflect
75%
of
the
light
from
the
sun
that
strikes
them.
For
a
long
time,
these
clouds
caused
Venus
to
be
a
great
mystery(谜)
to
the
world's
astronomers(天文学家).
If,
like
other
clouds,
the
ones
on
Venus
were
made
up
of
water
vapors
(水蒸气),
could
there
not
be
life
hiding
beneath
them
on
the
planet
Were
there
"Venusians(金星人)"
waiting
to
communicate
with
us
on
Earth
It
was
an
exciting
thought,
but
on
that
the
Mariner
recently
landed
to
rest.
The
Mariner
thoroughly
examined
Venus
and
its
atmosphere,
only
to
find
that
the
cloud
cover
was
made
mostly
of
deadly
carbon
dioxide
(二氧化碳)
gas.
The
atmospheric
pressure
was
15
to
22
times
greater
than
on
Earth,
which
further
disproved
the
theory
of
life
on
Venus.
And
what
did
the
Mariner
find
under
the
clouds
A
world
of
great
mountains
and
smooth
areas,
dry
as
a
bone.
The
temperature
is
about
900.
That's
hot.
Although
the
greatest
mystery
has
been
solved,
there
are
still
others
waiting
for
us
on
Venus.
Why
does
Venus
rotate
so
slowly
What
is
the
inside
of
Venus
like
And
most
important
of
all,
why
is
there
no
water
on
Venus
If,
as
it
was
thought,
it
was
formed
about
the
same
time
as
our
planet,
it
should
have
water.
These
questions
and
others
may
some
day
be
answered.
Until
then,
Venus
will
continue
to
be
the
brightest
mystery
in
the
sky.

八、短文7选5(5选5等)(共5小题;共10分)
As
the
old
saying
goes,
laughter
is
the
best
medicine.
117.
.
However,
doctors
have
begun
to
look
into
laughter
and
the
effects
is
has
on
the
human
body.
They
have
found
that
laughter
really
can
improve
people's
health.
118.
.
People
watched
funny
films
while
doctors
checked
their
heart,
blood
pressure,
breathing
and
muscles.
It
was
found
that
laughter
has
similar
effects
to
physical
exercise.
It
increases
blood
pressure,
makes
the
heart
beat
quicker
and
makes
people
breathe
deeper;
it
also
works
several
groups
of
muscles
in
the
face,
the
stomach,
and
even
the
feet.
119.
.
Other
tests
have
shown
that
laughter
appears
to
be
able
to
reduce
the
effect
of
pain
on
the
body.
In
one
experiment
doctors
produced
pain
in
groups
of
students
who
listened
to
different
radio
programs.
120.
.
The
reason
why
laughter
can
reduce
pain
seems
to
be
that
it
helps
to
produce
a
kind
of
chemical
in
the
brain
which
diminishes
both
stress
and
pain.
121.
.
They
try
to
improve
their
patients'
condition
by
encouraging
them
to
laugh.
They
have
found
that
even
if
their
patients
do
not
really
feel
like
laughing,
making
them
smile
is
enough
to
produce
beneficial
effects
similar
to
those
caused
by
laughter.
A.
Tests
were
carried
out
to
study
the
effects
of
laughter
on
the
body.
B.
Until
recently,
few
people
took
the
saying
seriously.
C.
Therefore,
people
are
taught
to
laugh.
D.
The
group
that
tolerated(忍耐)
the
pain
for
the
longest
time
was
the
group
which
listened
to
a
funny
program.
E.
As
a
result,
some
doctors
in
the
United
States
now
hold
laughter
clinics.
F.
Laughter
is
closely
related
to
good
health.
G.
If
laughter
exercises
the
body,
it
must
be
beneficial.

Dear
Ms.
Tailor,
Football
is
my
favorite
sport.
When
it
is
comes
to
football,
I
always
have
much
to
saying.
Last
week,
I
quarreled
with
my
mother
about
if
I
could
play
football
with
my
classmates
at
weekends.
My
mother
holds
the
view
strong
that
I
should
devote
all
my
spare
time
to
study
all
the
subjects
well.
In
my
opinion,
only
when
I
try
my
best
to
study
I
be
able
to
be
admitted
to
a

But
I
really
can't

As

as
I'm
concerned,
playing
football

build

strength
and
also
makes
me

Could
you
give
me
some
advices
on
how
to
persuade
my
mother
to
allow
me
to
play
football
at
weekends
Yours,
Jim

W:
I'
m
going
hiking
this
weekend.
Do
you
want
to
come
M:
That
sounds
good.
Rain
or
shine,
count
me
in.
W:
If
it's
raining,
I'm
afraid
you're
going
by
yourself,
because
I'll
be
going
to
visit
my
grandma.
M:
I'
ll
join
you
no
matter
what
you
do.
(Text

W:
Jack,
Mom
told
me
to
tell
you
that
you
shouldn'
t
go
to
the
party
tomorrow
night.
M:
You'
ve
got
to
be
kidding
me.
I'
m
32
years
old.
W:
Linda'
s
coming
tomorrow.
Don'
t
you
think
you
should
spend
some
time
with
her
instead
M:
Really
That'
s
great.
I
miss
her.
(Text

W:
Mark,
do
you
ever
surf
the
Internet
at
work
M:
Sure.
It
helps
me
relax.
I
spend
some
time
on
Facebook
each
day
at
work.
W:
I
read
a
recent
study
that
said
that
as
much
as
80
percent
of
the
time
people
spend
online
at
work
is
wasted.
M:
Really
Well,
I
read
a
study
the
other
day
that
said
when
people
spend
time
casually
browsing
the
Web
at
work,
they
actually
end
up
being
more
productive
and
creative.
W:
Ha
.
.
.
That'
s
funny.
Do
you
really
think
that'
s
true
M:
Yes.
I
can
control
myself.
I
don'
t
spend
too
much
time
browsing
the
Web
at
work.
I
surf
the
Internet
just
to
help
me
relax.
So
what
about
you
W:
Well,
I'
m
not
good
at
managing
my
time.
I
spend
too
much
time
talking
with
my
friends
online
at
work.
M:
You'
d
better
be
careful!
That
can
get
you
fired.
W:
Yeah,
I
do
need
to
stop.
I
don'
t
want
to
get
fired!

W:
Henry,
have
you
heard
about
the
course
"Teaching
Poetry
to
Children"

M:
Yes,
I
have.
Actually
I'
m
taking
that
course
this
term
at
Texas
State
University.
W:
Really
That'
s
amazing.
So
how
many
students
are
there
in
the
course
this
term
M:
There
are
fourteen
other
students
and
me.
W:
What
do
you
do
M:
We
spend
Tuesday
mornings
teaching
poetry
to
students
at
Crockett
Elementary
School.
W:
Why
did
you
want
to
take
the
course
M:
I
love
poetry
and
I
love
interacting
with
kids.
I
want
them
to
appreciate
the
beauty
of
poems.
W:
So
what
kind
of
poetry
do
you
think
is
good
M:
I
think
if
a
poem
shows
you
the
world
through
the
poet'
s
eyes,
then
that
is
a
good
poem.
W:
I
agree.
So
who
is
your
favorite
poet
M:
William
Carlos
Williams.
I
taught
the
kids
his
Between
Walls
in
class.
You
know
what,
they
had
the
most
interesting
responses
to
that
poem.
W:
It
sounds
as
if
they
liked
it.

Benet
was
one
of
the
most
popular
writers
in
the
United
States
during
the
first
half
of
the
1900s.
By
the
middle
of
1920s,
Benet
had
published
five
books
of
his
own.
Although
Benet
was
famous,
most
of
the
money
he
earned
came
from
the
stories
that
he
wrote
for
popular
magazines.
The
stories
were
meant
to
be
read
quickly
and
forgotten.
He
started
to
think
about
a
greater
purpose
for
his
writing.
He
wanted
people
to
remember
the
beauty
and
goodness
of
America
he
had
seen
as
a
boy.
He
began
to
try
new
things.
In
1926,
Benet
won
an
award
of
2,500
dollars.
He
used
the
money
to
continue
his
writing.
He
began
to
write
a
poem
about
America'
s
Civil
War.
The
poem
was
published
in
1928.
It
was
as
thick
as
a
book.
It
was
called
John
Brown'
s
Body.
The
poem
was
famous
for
its
power
and
truth.
It
was
so
filled
with
details
that
professors
of
history
used
it
to
teach
their
students
about
the
Civil
War.
It
was
read
on
American
and
British
radio.
The
year
after
it
was
published,
Stephen
Vincent
Benet
received
America'
s
Pulitzer
Prize
for
poetry.

Welcome
to
our
program.
Today
we'll
talk
about
a
famous
space
explorer,
Neil
Armstrong.
Neil
Armstrong
was
born
on
August
5,
1930,
in
Wapakoneta,
Ohio.
Armstrong
showed
a
great
interest
in
flying
from
the
time
he
was
little.
He
experienced
his
first
airplane
flight
with
his
father
when
he
was
five,
and
earned
his
flight
certificate
at
age
15.
At
age
17,
Armstrong
entered
university
to
study
engineering.
Two
years
later,
he
joined
the
Navy.
After
his
service
with
the
Navy
as
a
pilot,
he
returned
to
university
to
study
engineering.
Then
Armstrong
became
a
test
pilot
at
a
government
flight
station,
and
in
1958
was
chosen
to
be
part
of
the
government'
s
astronaut
program.
July
17,
1969
was
an
unforgettable
day
in
Armstrong'
s
life.
On
that
day,
he
and
two
other
astronauts
entered
space
in
Apollo
11,
on
the
space
flight
that
would
result
in
man'
s
first
landing
on
the
moon.
After
four
days'
voyage
in
space,
they
made
a
successful
landing
on
the
moon.
Armstrong
was
chosen
as
the
first
man
to
walk
on
the
moon,
and
made
the"giant
leap
for
mankind"
.
Neil
Armstrong
died
on
August
25,
2012.
His
remarkable
life
is
an
inspiration
to
young
people
around
the
world
to
be
willing
to
explore
and
push
the
limits,
and
to
work
hard
to
make
their
dreams
come
true.
