The first couple took full advantage of the cool spring night.
After a date night out on Saturday evening, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama decided to take a walk when their motorcade(车队) arrived back at the White House. So they began walking on the driveway of the White House South Lawn while holding hands. First they passed the West Wing, then their children's play on the lawn. They kept walking, swinging their hands together.
There were no safeguards right behind them -- the safeguards stood off, in one of the rare moments that the Obamas had private space outside the White House walls. As the Obamas walked behind shrubbery(灌木林) and out of sight, the unknown moment left reporters guessing where they were going. To the vegetable garden? The basketball court? No final word, but they eventually came back the same way from where they started, rounding out their 8-minute walk.
The walk wrapped up one of their first date nights in Washington since they've lived at the White House. Before arriving home and taking the walk, the president and first lady dined out for nearly two hours at a posh Georgetown restaurant.
The walk was a quiet contrast to their dinner outing. The Obamas’ visit to Georgetown attracted thick crowds of onlookers who were held back by police tape, while sirens(警报) occasionally wailed(鸣叫) and a protestor chanted(抗议) outside the restaurant.

47. What didn’t happen outside the restaurant when the Obamas were having dinner? ( )
A. Sirens occasionally wailed.
B. A protestor chanted.
C. The police held back the onlookers.
D. Many reporters were waiting to interview them.
48. What does the underlined word “they” in the third paragraph refer to? ( )
A. The first couple. B. The reporters. C. The safeguards. D. The policemen.

If you asked me what the newest fashion is for teens today, I would have to say the MP4 is. This handheld electronic device can store and play thousands of songs. Almost everyone has one. After all, to most teens, music is more than a way to express themselves and it’s their “escape”.
On popular music radio stations, almost every song is about love, and many songs are about break-ups. There are two ways that people react to break-ups. They may be glad to break up with people that don’t appreciate them: “Get out! Leave, right now; it’s the end of you and me…I can’t wait for you to be gone,” goes a popular song by a singer named Jojo. Or they may beg their boy/girl friends to come back: “Baby, when you left, I lost a part of me…Please come back, we belong together,” goes an equally popular song by Mariah Carey, a huge star.
But not all songs are about break-ups; some songs about true love are also popular. DJ Sammy’s “Baby you’re all that I want/ when you’re lying here in my arms/ I’m finding it hard to believe/ we are in heaven…”
Other songs are about growing up. “Did I grow up according to plan? And do you think I’m wasting my time doing things I wanna do? But it hurts when you disapprove all along,” goes a song by Simple Plan, addressed to a dad who tried to plan his son’s life.
However, the best songs are the ones about important issues in the world. A couple of years ago, the longest-reigning(长期占领) number one song of the year, a favorite of mine as well, was a song asking for non-violence in a tumultuous(骚乱的) world. But another song tops my list: “I don’t want another pretty face…I want you and you beautiful soul.” Other songs make me want to scream at the radio, especially when they top the rating charts: “Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?” However, all songs, whether about falling in love or out of it, truly reflect the mood of a generation.
49. What does the passage mainly talk about? ( )
A. Different songs.
B. The teen’s newest fashion.
C. Songs of different themes.
D. The songs the write likes best.
50. Why is the MP4 popular with teens? ( )
A. Because it’s a modern, handheld electronic device.
B. Because it’s very convenient to enjoy music with it.
C. Because it can help them to improve English.
D. Because it can help them escape from school.
51. According to the passage, which statement is NOT true? ( )
A. Every teen has an MP4.
B. Most people like songs about break-ups.
C. Mariah Carey was painful when she broke up with her boyfriend.
D. All songs reflect the mood of a generation.
52. Which song does the writer like best? ( )
A. “Baby, when you left, I lost a part of me…”
B. “I don’t want another pretty face…I want you and your beautiful soul.”
C. “Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?”
D. “Baby you’re all that I want”

About one in 10 videogame players show signs of addictive behavior that could have negative effects on their family, friends and school work, according to a new study.
Researchers at Iowa State University (ISU) and the National Institute on Media and the Family found that some gamers show at least six symptoms(症状) of gambling addiction such as lying to family and friends about how much they play games, using the games to escape their problems and becoming restless or irritable when they stop playing. They may also skip homework to play videogames or spend too much time playing the games and do poorly in school.
“The medical community currently does not recognize video game addiction as a mental illness.” Dr Douglas Gentile, an assistant professor of psychology at ISU, said in a statement.
Addicted gamers played videogames 24 hours a week, twice as much as casual gamers. Some addicted gamers even steal to support their habit, according to the findings that will be published in the journal Psychological Science.
“While video games can be fun and entertaining, some kids are getting into trouble. I continue to hear from families who are concerned about their child’s gaming habits. Not only do we need to focus on identifying the problem, but we need to find ways to help families prevent and treat it.” said Walsh.

One possible version:
It is reported that the construction of the subway Line 2 will start before 1st, October this year in Changsha, and it will be completed in the year 2013.
There are many advantages of subways. First, subway is one of the symbols of a modern city. Many big cities in China have subway systems. Second, subway is swift, safe and punctual, which brings much convenience to people. What’s more, it will save much time for citizens. Third, the present traffic condition in Changsha is getting worse and worse due to the sharply increase of cars, so subway is an effective way to relieve the heavy traffic jams. The last but not least, with more and more skyscrapers being built, the land that can be used becomes less and less, while building subway could make good use of the land and save energy sources.
I believe the life with subway must be convenient and I’m looking forward to that day.
