教材分析
本节课是Book1第5单元的第一课时,中心内容是讲述曼德拉的优秀品质,但不同于一般伟人故事平铺直叙的写法,借穷苦的黑人工人伊莱亚斯之口,叙述发生在他身边的曼德拉的故事,颂扬伟人的优秀品质。这样的写法有别于惯常所采用的平铺直叙,虽然只反映出曼德拉的一个侧面,但读起来却更亲切感人,引人入胜,还留给学生更多的思考空间。本课课文载有该单元有关主题的重要信息,呈现了其中大部分的词汇和主要的语法结构。教学时,应帮助学生理清人物关系,围绕“曼德拉的事迹和优秀品质”设计课堂活动。
高一的学生英语学习兴趣较浓,自信心较强,乐于感知新事物,积极参与课堂活动。然而,受初中阅读文章短小且浅显易懂的影响,学生还未养成良好的阅读习惯,缺乏阅读策略与技能的训练与培养,不具备良好的英语思维习惯,不能很好地理解作者的写作意图,缺乏深层感悟文本的能力。依据新课程标准,把课文阅读整体处理,通过图片、英文解释及语境让学生理解新词汇、扫除语言障碍,理解课文,利用信息技术辅助手段来激发学生阅读兴趣,在训练阅读策略与技能的同时学习曼德拉的优秀品质,激励学生从小事做起、从身边做起,更好地学习和生活,将来更好地报效祖国的斗志。本课着重训练学生快读、细读课文,提高抓大意、获取关键信息、理解文章内涵的能力。重点培养学生阅读、理解课文的能力,结合现实感悟文本的能力;难点是找出反映曼德拉的高贵品质的语句与段落,概括曼德拉的优秀品质。

2. 过程与方法
为了达到这个目标,遵循“语言接触—理解体验—语言聚焦—自主运用”的教学思路,采取以学生为中心,以任务为载体,开展小组合作探究的教学方法,我设计了以下几个主要的学生活动:学生做猜人物游戏,引出话题;学生看图片,听英文解释并结合情景学习阅读障碍词汇:lawyer, legal, attack, violence, blow up,vote;学生浏览课文,理清人物关系,概括主旨;学生细读课文,找到伊莱斯和黑人遇到曼德拉之前、之后的生活变化和曼德拉给予他们帮助的信息; 小组合作找出反映曼德拉优秀品质的语句和段落,讨论概括曼德拉的优秀品质;联系学生生活实际谈论曼德拉有哪些优秀品质值得他们学习,作为学生应具有哪些优秀品质。
