Part1 Analysis of teaching materials
1.Teaching content: This is the first period of Unit 6 that centers about expressing personal traits and comparing people. This part has fun_ction which links the preceding with the following.
2. Teaching difficulty and emphasis:
Help the students master how to compare two persons’ appearances and characters by using the comparative forms of adjectives.
To improve the students’ abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing by learning this lesson.
Part 2 Teaching aims and demands
1.Knowledge aims:
To learn the new vocabulary: outgoing, twin, calm, wild, serious, athletic.
☆To study the comparatives with –r,–er/ier, y→i+er, 双写最后一个辅音字母+er, and more: taller, shorter, calmer, wilder, funnier, thinner, more outgoing,…and so on.
☆To study target language: Is that Sam? No, that’s Tom. He has shorter hair than Sam. He’s calmer than Sam.
2.Ability aims:
Be able to talk about characters of your own and others,
Correctly compare and give judgement.
3.Moral aims:
Pay respect to yourself and others .Cultivate good personal traits.
Part 3 Analysis of teaching and learning methods
Teaching methods:
☆“Task-based learning” with the help of useful situation to classify the task and give different students different evaluations.
☆Teach by CAI to create a lively and vivid language environment.
Learning methods:
☆Through some competitions to arouse the students’ interest.
☆Let the students work in pairs or groups to learn the cooperative learning.
☆To guide students to listen, speak, read and write English actively, to create a student-centered classroom.
Part4 Teaching Procedures :
Step1: Lead-in
a. Listen to the theme song of the 11th National Games.
b. Have a free talk about the opening ceremony of the 11th National Games.
(目的:通过听全运会主题曲《相亲相爱》及谈论11届全运会开幕式,激发学生浓厚的学习兴趣爱国情怀,并为下文引入生词做铺垫)
Step2.Presentation
1.Show some pictures on the screen and talk about them with some new words for Ss to guess the meanings of the new words , then play a leading role to read them.
(目的:首先通过全运会上三对双胞胎羽毛球运动员图片引导学生猜测生词twins和athletic, 然后图片展示并教授生词。)
2.Word competition
Divide the class into two groups, ask them to have a word competition. Let them look at the pictures and say the English words out. Find out the winner and encourage them.
(目的:通过单词比赛对本节课的生词进行及时巩固。而比赛的形式又可以调动学生学习的积极性和参与度。)
Step3. Practice? Get Ss to match each word with its opposite in 1a. Check the answers.(目的:继续巩固形容词,为下面引入比较级句型打好基础。)Step4.Presentation
1.Show some famous persons’ photos and teach the sentence structure:
主语+be+adj.的比较级+ than+ 对比成分。First the teacher say, then ask students to say them out.
Give a chart about Tina and Tara, First use the structure above to practice in pairs, then have a competition, ask students to make sentences as many as possible

(目的:通过图片比较形象地教给学生比较级句型的用法,教师主要是引导,然后让学生进行自己描述。通过造句比赛,让学生巩固比较级的句型,调动积极性,提高注意力。)
Step 5 Practice
1.Use the pictures to lead in the sentence structure: Is that ……? No, it isn’t. It’s ….+adj.的比较级 than…....
2.Then show the students some more pictures and ask them to practice more.
(目的:这一部分实际上是回扣课本1c练习。但是为了体现课堂的连贯性而没有直接用课本的图画去练习。因为前面已对含有比较级的陈述句已经进行反复的练习,所以直接在进行听力1b之前完成,对学生来说是一个水到渠成的事情。)
Step6 Listening1.First let the students look at the picture in 1b, play the recording once,have Ss listen to three conversations about the twins and number 1 through 3 for them. Check the answers.
2.Look at the listening materials and listen again.
3.Listen to the tape for the third time, then fill in the blanks.
(目的:练习学生的听力,继续巩固比较级句型。有了前面的各种训练,这一部分对学生来说已很容易.同时通过看听力原文听读以及补充的填空练习,考察学生对听力的理解运用及写的能力。)
Step7 Pair work
Point out the sample conversation in 2c,ask 2 students to read it in class. Then have Ss make up similar conversations about the twins in the picture in pairs. Ask some pairs to act them out.
(目的:在原有比较级句型陈述句的基础上进行一般疑问句的练习。)
Step 8 Listening
1.2a Listen and complete the chart, check the answers.
2.2b Listen and fill in the chart.
(目的:通过听力训练让学生对比较级的变换方式及句型进一步巩固,也为下一步的任务输出提供了输入材料)
Step8.Consolidation
Let students read a passage : “My friends” to revise the new words. Then play a guessing game: Who is your friend?
Oral writing: My best friend.
(目的:通过猜朋友的游戏和口头作文的练习,既可提高学生的注意力和学习兴趣,又可以让学生对本节课的重点在灵活运用的过程中提高各方面的能力,真正能让学生在做中学。)
Step 9 Summary
1. Get students to look at come comparative forms of adjectives and ask them to summarize the rules.
2. Summarize what we have learned this class.
(目的:通过让学生观察所给的各种形式的比较级,让学生自己总结比较级的构成,学生的领悟和记忆会更好。)
