Step I: Greeting and Warming up

T: Hello, everyone. We have learned many words that describe the places, Can you think of them
Ss: Yes, library, school, restaurant,bank, post office, supermarket,police station and so on.
T: Oh, good .You have a good memory. Today we will learn more new words that describe the places such as restroom and drugstore .
Step II New words and 1a
1. Show some pictures to teacher new words
Show out a picture of “department store”, teach it, ask Ss to read after teacher,then
read together, and ask “What can we do in the department store ”Get Ss to answer
it, they may have many answers.
T: We can also buy shampoo in it, teach shampoo. Then the teacher asks: Where can I buy shampoo Get Ss to answer “in the department store”.
T: What other places can I buy shampoo They may answer “in the supermarket”
T: I can also buy it in a drugstore. And teach drugstore. Ask: What can I buy in the drugstore Get Ss to answer it.
Show out “buy some writing paper” and “make a telephone call”, read them out,then the teacher asks: Where can I buy some writing paper
Ss: in the drugstore.
T: Other places
Ss: supermarket or department store …
Learn the other words in the same way.
2.OK. Now look at the box in 1a on page 86, suppose you want to do the following things, match each thing with a place in the picture below.
There may be different answers. After the Ss finish matching, collect the answers.
Step III. New Language and Drill
Now suppose you are not in your own city, you are traveling in another city, which you are not familiar. For example, you want to save money but you don’t know where the bank is.How would you ask Ask three groups to perform how to ask in different ways. Group 1:A: Hi , where is the bank
B: (no answer)
Group2 :A: Excuse me , where is the bank
B: It’s on center street.
Group3:A:Could you tell me where the bank is
B: Sure, There is a bank on center street.
T: In Group 1,why he didn’t answer
S: I thinh she is not polite.If I were him,I woudn’t answer ,either.
T: Yes ,you are right. We can use the following expressions instead to ask for help.
Show the following structures on the screen.
Could you tell me where I can ...
Do you know where I can get to ...
Make more sentences by using these two structures, your requests may sound very polite.
Step IV: Listening(1b)
Read the instructions to students. Point out the two conversations that are shown in the picture.
As you listen, fill in the blanks with words you hear in the recording.
Play the recording the first time.Students only listen.
Play the recording a second time.This time ask them to fill in the blanks with the words you hear.
Check the answers with the whole class.
Step V Pairwork (1c)
Read the instructions to the class.
Say. Look at activity la. Have a conversation with a partner. Ask your parter politely where you can do these thing and then answer your partner’s questions.
After students have had a chance to practise several exchanges, ask some pairs to come to the front of the classroom and act out their conversations.
Step VI: Listening(2a,2b)
1.Read the instructions and point to the list of directions.Get students to name the items in the picture such as escalator, elevator, shoe store, and so on.
2.Play the recording. Students only listen.Tell them that the picture may help them understand what they are hearing.
Play the recording again. This time ask students to write a number next to four of the directions.
2. Listen again, and get Ss to draw a line to get to the drugstore. Require one student to show out his answer onto the objector.
Step VII: Pairwork (2c)
1.Ask a pair of students to read the sample conversation aloud to the class.
2.Read the instructions aloud. Say. Make conversations using information about the places in the picture with your partners.
3.Ask one or two pairs to say their conversations to the class. Ask the rest of the class to look at the picture as they listen.
Step VIII: Tell ways
Suppose An old granny is coming to our city,she really needs our help, Let’s go and help her. Please remember: When we ask for the way , we should be polite.
Show a map .Work in pairs with your parters.

Do some exercises, choose the best answer, and check the answers.
