1.stop doing sth. 是“停止做某事”,而stop to do sth. 则是“停下来去做某事”。
stop sb.(from) doing. 阻止某人做某事

【知识归纳】在英语中有些动词和stop一样既可以跟to+ 动词原形,也可以跟v-ing,其含义有的相近,有的相差甚远。现将较常见的几组词的区别归纳如下:1.意思相差较大的有:
①remember / forget doing sth.表示记得/忘记做过某事(做了)
remember /forget to do sth.表示记住/忘记做某事 (没做)
如:I remember seeing the film .我记得看过这部电影。
Remember to post the letter.记着去寄信。
②try doing sth.试着做某事 如: If the car won’t start, try pushing it.
try to do sth.尽力做某事 如: They tried to solve the problem.
③need doing sth.主语是物,主动形式表被动意义。=need to be done
need to do sth.需要做某事,主语一般为人。
如:My car needs repairing.=My car needs to be repaired.我的车需要修理。
We need to study hard .我们需要努力学习。
④go on doing sth. 继续做一直在做的事 如: Please go on doing your homework.
go on to do sth接着做另一件事如After I finished my work, I went on to watch TV
2.意思有区别,但比较相近的有 :
①like/ love/ hate doing sth. ②start/ begin doing sth. ③be afraid of doing sth.
like/ love/ hate todo sth. start/ begin to do sth. be afraid to do sth.
3.动词不定式和现在分词做宾语补足语的区别:我们常见的动词如feel,hear, see, watch, notice等,接不带的不定式表示已经完成的或经常性的动作;接现在分词表示动作正在进行。
如:I often hear the bird sing in the tree.
Listen, can you hear the bird singing in the tree.

③keep doing sth. 意思是继续不断的做某事,一直做某事.
如:The baby kept crying until his mother came back.
④Keep sb.from doing sth.意思是阻止某人做某事.from不能省略。

4.provide sth. for sb. = provide sb. with sth. 把某物提供给某人
These letters should provide all the information for us.
= These letters should provide us with all the information.
**offer也可表示“供给,提供某人某物”,但要注意offer sb. sth.=offer sth. to sb.
5.. urge sb. to do 力促、怂恿某人做某事 e.g. They urged us to give our support.
6.I don’t think so. 我不这样认为。I think so. 我认为是这样。
so在此是代词,代替上文的句意,否定常用not。以下是英语的习惯用法:
I think so. →I don’t think so. I am afraid so. →I am afraid not.
I hope so. →I hope not. I believe so. →I don’t believe so. /I believe not.

1.hear/ hear of (about)/ hear from
hear “听见”,“听到”,后可接名词、代词+ 分词结构或动词原形。
hear和 hear of 都可以解做“听说”,hear 后面接宾语从句,hear of (about) 接名词、代词或动名词。hear from“收到…的信”,“得到…的消息”
e.g. I heard him just now. 我刚才听到他说话。
I have never heard of him before. 我以前从没听说过他。
I heard him singing in the next room. 我听见他在隔壁房间里唱歌。

2.be made of / be made from/ be made in / be made by/be made into
be made of “由…制成”,主语为制成品,而且能看出原材料。
be made from 意思也是“由…制成”,但制成品看不出原材料。
be made in 表示某一产品在某地生产或制造,in后面跟表示地点的名词。
be made by “由(谁)制造的”, by 后面接动作的执行者。
be made into “… 被制成…”
e.g. The bridge is made of stone. 这桥是石头砌的。
Paper is made from wood. 纸是由木头制成的。
Wood is made into paper.木头被制成纸。
Metal can be made into all kinds of things.
This kind of TV is made in Beijing.这种电视机是北京产的。
